2013/14

Former Watford midfielder Gary Fisken signs for Sun Postal

New Sun Postal manager Paul Hobbs has wasted no time in delving into his contacts book, convincing former Watford midfielder Gary Fisken to resurrect his career at the Spartan South Midlands League outfit.
Fisken, 31, has barely kicked a ball in anger since leaving Thurrock in 2008 but has agreed to start pre-season training at Belmount Wood Avenue later this month.
One of Fisken's 19 appearances for Watford, his hometown club, came under Gianluca Vialli against Arsenal in the FA Cup, and his experience could be vital in helping Hobbs transform the fortunes of the club.

Sun Postal swoop for Kings Langley star James Armstrong

Sun Postal have signalled their ambition for next season by signing the prolific James Armstrong from rivals Kings Langley.
Armstrong, 31, has hit more than 100 goals in two seasons for Langley, including one in the 3-1 Division One Cup final win over Stony Stratford, but the striker has decided to join his former manager Paul Hobbs at the Sun.
His arrival is a major coup for Hobbs who was appointed manager of the South Midlands Division One outfit earlier this month, replacing Gordon Wallis who was the club's fourth manager of a troubled 2012/13 campaign.
Wallis managed to avoid relegation, finishing fifth from bottom but new chairman Martin Sills, who replaced the outgoing Jim Kempster, wanted to launch his reign with his own man and chose Hobbs, the former Kings Langley and Bovingdon manager who enjoyed a fine playing career at Aylesbury United, Hendon and Chesham United.
Hobbs has moved swiftly to name Terry Hows, the Sun stalwart, as his assistant and has raided his former club Langley to add Chris Campbell and Paul Masters to his coaching staff.
Crawford Watters, who managed the Hammer last season, will also assist Hobbs while Michael Woolner, the Sun graduate who played for AFC Wimbledon, is part of a new committee formed by Sills.
Hobbs anticipates making a raft of new signings – Sean Sonner, Alex Brown, Nathan Pooley and Steve Stratford have all been mentioned – but his plan to integrate the club's Under-18 side suffered a blow with the unexpected news that manager Tim O'Sullivan has taken his side, who finished second in the East Division of the Allied Counties Youth League, to club rivals Oxhey Jets.

Free scoring Sun Postal Sports off to ideal start

Sun Postal Sports celebrated the perfect start to the season, scoring 15 goals in their opening two Division One games as Paul Hobbs opened his account as their manager in emphatic style.

Following a 10-0 victory over Stony Stratford, they put five past Wodson Park on Wednesday night.

The goal rout has been helped by striker James Armstrong, who arrived from Kings Langley. Armstrong has already hit the back of the net seven times, with a hat-trick on Saturday that was followed up by four on Wednesday night.

Jamie Harper chipped in with two goals on Saturday as did Ashley Lewis. Craig Lynskey found the net in both games, including a stunning free-kick on Wednesday night.
The side will hope to continue this goalscoring form on Saturday when they entertain Chesham United Reserves.

Sun Postal Sports move top

Sun Postal Sports moved to the top of the Division One table after they completed a 6-1 win at home to Woodson Park.
Nathan Pooley netted twice in the opening ten minutes to put Sun in front and a first-half brace from Craig Lynsky put the home side firmly in control at the interval.
Craig Knightly pulled a goal back for Park after the restart but Lynsky completed his hat-trick ten minutes into the second period.
Mason Todd grabbed a second for the visitors but Pooley secured his treble with half an hour remaining to seal the win.

Sun Postal Sports suffered a 2-1 defeat against Crawley Green Spartan South Midlands League Division One

Sun Postal Sports suffered their second consecutive defeat in Spartan South Midlands League Division One as they lost 2-1 against Crawley Green.

But their hopes of avoiding following three straight wins with three consecutive losses have been boosted by the signing of former England schoolboy Sean Sonner.

The player has enjoyed successful spells at Slough, Hendon, Boreham Wood and Harefield, and his signing represents a major coup for Sun.

“Sean will add that little spark we need,” Hobbs said.

Sun Postal Sports dealt Kings Langley a heavy blow in the race for the Spartan South Midlands Division One title with a 2-1 win at home on Saturday.
Ashley Lewis’ goal 11 minutes from time proved decisive for Sun, who are now second in the table, three points behind Bedford but with three games in hand over the league leaders.

Sun Postal Sports are looking for a new coach to join their existing senior management football team

Sun Sports are looking for coach or manager to join their senior football management team.
The applicant should have experience of coaching at senior or Under-18 level and coaching qualifications would be preferable. They will have the ability to attract new players and be able to get the best out of the existing members of the senior squad.
They will work closely with the senior football management team of first-team boss Paul Hobbs, Terry Hows, Chris Campbell and Crawford Watters.
The club enjoyed the greatest moment in their history last season when the first team won Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League, their first trophy since 1995. They also reached the final of the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy.
The Reserves, meanwhile, finished third in Reserve Division Two.

Sun Postal Sports were held to a 1-1 draw against Chesham United Reserves
Sun Postal Sports are second in Spartan South Midlands Division One after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Chesham United Reserves on Saturday.
After a goalless opening period, the deadlock was broken in the 62nd minute as Nathan Pooley found the net.
The lead was short-lived however, and Bailey Morgan netted to ensure the points were shared.
Sun were meant to return to action on Tuesday evening but their home match against Risborough Rangers was postponed due to the weather.

Watford football club anger at 'organised' campaign of vandalism

A well-used Watford playing fields repeatedly targeted by "organised vandals" has had a fence torn down days after it was put up.
The Sun Postal Sports and Social Club, in Bellmount Wood Avenue, has seen its football pitches covered in mess, rubish and dog poo - in some instances forcing matches to be cancelled.
The club has now spent thousands of pounds repairing a fence around the sports grounds, but the bid to stop tresspasses has failed at every attempt.

Joe Tibbles, one of the club’s directors, said enough is enough.

He said: "Every week children and adults using these grounds have to clear dogs mess, broken glass, rubbish and repair nets before games can take place.

"On Sunday our five-a-side competition had to be delayed because the pitch was deliberately covered in debris from the fencing that was again vandalised."

Sun Postal management is convinced the vadalism is "organised" rather than carried out by children.

Mr Tibbles said it has been ongoing for years and no fence has been able to stop the behaviour and stem the trail of destruction - but has cost the club thousands in repairs.

Sun Postal Sports completed a 3-0 win over Amersham Town

Sun Postal Sports continued their Spartan South Midlands Division One title charge with a 3-0 win over Amersham Town on Tuesday.
James Armstrong bagged a brace and Nathan Pooley was also on target in the victory which puts Sun two points off top spot with two games in hand.
Sun’s match against Southall on Saturday fell victim to the weather.

2014/15
In the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division, Sun Sports thrashed Cockfosters 4-0 thanks to a brace from Sam Warrell.
Further goals from ex-Kings man Ashley Lewis and Karl Penney completed the rout for Paul Hobbs’ men.
However, Sun exited the Herts Challenge Cup 5-0 at home to Southern League Premier outfit Hitchin Town on Tuesday. They travel to Harefield United on Saturday.

Sun Sports’ Bellmount Wood Avenue has passed its grading, allowing Paul Hobbs’ side to remain in the Premier Division

Sun Sports’ Bellmount Wood Avenue has passed its grading, allowing Paul Hobbs’ side to remain in the Premier Division next season.
Earlier in the season Sun had announced they would be applying to the Football Association to join the Southern League. However, that has been put on hold after their chances of promotion were dashed.
“We are really pleased,” said manager Hobbs. “It is a big step forward for the club.”
Sun, currently third in the top flight, made the decision not to apply to join the Southern League in the new year and Hobbs explained: “We applied for the Southern League but it was not viable for us to continue because of finances; it was beyond our means to get the ground grading.
“We have done so much work to stay in this league, including putting in seating for 60 to 70 people.”
However, the door is far from closed for joining the Southern League in the future.
“If we get ourselves into a position next season where we could win promotion we will have to sit down and discuss that,” stated Hobbs.
“You have to spend so much money on things that I don’t think really improve the club.”
Sun Sports came from behind to beat St Margaretsbury 3-2 on Tuesday, moving them level on points with second-placed London Colney.
Joe Kelly gave Sun the lead after 15 minutes but two goals in three minutes, separated by half time, put the home side in front.
Ashley Lewis then drew the visitors level after ten second-half minutes and the comeback was complete when centre-half Scott Bonner netted just before the hour.
Three days earlier Sun eased to a 2-0 home win over Tring Athletic; Lewis and Richard Pearce getting the goals for the hosts.
Sun will now look to leapfrog London Colney when the two sides meet on Saturday at the home of the Blueboys.

2010/11

Heavy defeat for Sun Postal Sports

Sun Postal Sports were beaten 3-0 at Buckingham Athletic in South Midlands Division One on Saturday.
The visitors found themselves 2-0 down at the break and were unable to produce a comeback in the second half.

Sun Postal Sports denied by Lions

Sun Postal Sports had to settle for a 0-0 draw at home to London Lions in the South Midlands Division One.
It was a frustrating afternoon as Sun Postal were unable to break down the visitors.

Lights go out on Kings Langley

Kings Langley were left frustrated after their match with Sun Postal Sports was called off due to floodlight failure last night.
The hosts were leading 1-0 in the South Midlands Division One clash when the lights went out after just 17 minutes.

Defeat at St Albans for Sun Postal Sports

Sun Postal Sports were beaten 2-1 at St Albans City Reserves in South Midlands Division One.
Rob Quattromini fired the home side into the lead after just ten minutes and they extended their advantage through Sermet Karagozlu.
Sun Postal pulled one back through Ben Poulton's injury time penalty but it was too little too late.

Sun Postal Sports finished the season with a 4-1 home defeat to Hoddesdon Town.
Tom Massey's consolation after 45 minutes was the only high point of a disappointing last game for Sun Postal.

2014/15

Sun Sports lost 4-1 to Berkhamsted to crash out the Challenge Trophy on Tuesday

Sun Sports crashed out of the Challenge Trophy after they were beaten 4-1 by Berkhamsted on Tuesday.
It took Berko just 12 minutes to break the deadlock. Frankie Jowle’s corner was met by Ed Canham and he steered his header home.
The visitors doubled their advantage soon after as Adiel Mannion’s deflected effort found the back of the net.
James Armstrong came close for Sun but Ben Barnes, who was making his debut in the Berko goal, saved well.
Jowle clipped the top of the crossbar early in the second half before Simeon Fearon pulled a goal back for Sun. He reacted quickly to run on to a pass and lash his effort past Barnes.
However, Berko soon restored their advantage with the goal of the game. A great cross-field pass released Jowle on the right wing and his cross was swept home by BJ Christie.
A Mannion lob made it 4-1 and there could have been more goals, with James Towell hitting the post as Berko pressed home their advantage.
Sun were beaten 2-1 by Hoddesdon, with Nathan Pooley’s goal not enough for the visitors.
2001/02

Star outshine Sun Sports

Elliott Star Reserves continued their climb up the league table with a well-deserved 2-0 win over Sun Sports on Saturday.
The first half was a hard struggle against a young Sun side, but Elliotts' quality shone through in the second half.
The first goal was a header from Ian Cooper, who met a McGurk cross and gave the Sun keeper no chance. The second also came from Cooper, when he rounded the last defender. Any threat was dealt with by Jeffs and Quinn at the back and Mason also gave a fine goalkeeping display.

SUN POSTAL produced a ruthless performance, coupled with a clinical display of finishing, to convincingly defeat local rivals Bedmond 4-0, and, in the process, re-affirm their title credentials.
"That was as well as we have played for a long, long time," said delighted Sun manager Terry Hows. "We scored three brilliant goals and totally out-muscled them, which doesn't normally happen. We just need that consistency."
Bedmond enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges, but failed to breach a resolute Sun defence, marshalled by the impressive Mark Ash on his return to the club.
On 20 minutes Sun took the lead when a cross from Paul Haynes was stabbed home at the far post by Steve Patteson.
They doubled the lead 15 minutes later when a sublime step over and cross from Richie Johnson, against his former club, was met with a thumping header from Ben Cowen from 12 yards.
In complete control, the outstanding Cowen added his second on the hour mark, after a defence splitting pass from Darren Seabrook, and then Patteson rounded off an accomplished team performance with a thunderous 25-yard free kick that arrowed into the top corner.
"I thought we started brighter and were the better side in the opening 20 minutes. However, after Sun took the lead against the run of play, there was only one team in it and it wasn't Bedmond," said a disappointed Andy Kent. "The lads are all disappointed. They just didn't perform in a big local derby. We know we were second best on the day, and that hurts."

SUN POSTAL relinquished their nine-match unbeaten run in disappointing fashion after a lacklustre display saw them slip to a 2-0 defeat away at Sandridge Rovers.
Sandridge took the lead after ten minutes when captain Mark Andrews cooly slotted home the rebound after Andy Hopping had saved his initial effort.
Sun improved slightly in the second half, and should have equalised through Andy Wood, but he saw his effort crash against the bar
Sandridge sealed the victory on the hour mark when Alan Oaks scored following a counter attack.
"We didn't play very well and were beaten by the better side," admitted Sun boss Terry Hows.

Early-season pace-setters Sun Postal continue to lead the table by a solitary point following a 2-1 away win at Hatfield.
After weathering an early storm, Sun began to assert themselves on the match, and should have taken the lead when Ben Cowen missed a gilt-edged chance after being sent clear.
However, the former Barnet YTS apprentice made amends with a brilliant finish 15 minutes later to give Sun the lead. Revelling in his role of captain this season, Cowen collected the ball inside the penalty area, cleverly turned his man before nonchalantly dummying the keeper, and rolling the ball into the empty net.
Sun doubled their lead midway through the second period with a neat finish from top-scorer Paul Haynes, only for Hatfield to pull one back within a minute.
Telling interceptions from Gregg McLaren and Greg Totten ensured Sun held on to the lead and maintained their unbeaten record.
"We don't make things easy for ourselves sometimes, but I'm delighted with the win because this is a difficult place to come and a lot of teams will drop points here," said Sun boss Terry Hows.

Sun and Jets book final dates

OXHEY JETS and Sun Postal set up a mouthwatering Aubrey Cup final on Monday, May, after they came through their respective semi-finals on Saturday, March 23.
Goals from Wayne Gladdy and a wonder strike from Gary Page helped Jets come from behind to defeat Sandridge Rovers, while Dean Hutchison and Chris Eldridge were on target for Sun Postal in their 2-0 win over Met Police Bushey

Sun sets on Star

Out of form Star were defeated by Sun Sport at Watford on Saturday.
The team Star put out was a collection of old and new faces and it was an indifferent performance in which the team played without any confidence.
Matt Jones scored Star's only goal and it was one that would have graced Wembley.
Sun deserved their win and this Saturday Star are at home against St Peter's and will have seven players back from holidays, suspensions and a trek to Australia by a gaggle of players during the summer months.

Sun's cup hopes leave on a Jet plane

SUN POSTAL must be sick of the sight of Oxhey Jets. Not only did Paul Waites' side close a huge gap at the top-of-the-table to take the championship at the expense of Sun with victory on the final day of the season against Wormley, a 114th minute Wayne Gladdy strike sealed Monday's (May 6) Aubrey Cup Final, leaving the beleaguered Sun once again trophieless.
Deep into first-half injury time, Jets took the lead, though, with the normally reliable Sun defence all at sea.
A hopeful ball played long into the Sun box was met by Kevin Affleck whose attempted clearance found plenty of height but little distance. With the defence static, the unmarked Scott Simmonds pulled the ball down beautifully before firing a half-volley low past Andy Hopping into the far corner of the net.
Although Jets defended manfully, Sun's leveller eventually came on the hour when Andrew Wood's corner was met by Robert Coldrake, who headed home at the back post.
By extra-time, Jets looked the more confident team and were causing Sun all sorts of problems with their pace, particularly down the wing.
When Robert Coldrake was caught out of position with six minutes remaining, Jets seized their chance, and Gary Page who had been kept relatively quiet by the Sun defence broke down the right before crossing for Gladdy to poke the ball home from eight yards.
