Bushey United 3 Sun Engraving Reserves 1 1939/40 Herts County League Div 2
The Sun went down
The Sun went down in a County League game at Moat Field on Saturday.
The surface of the pitch was spoiled by a couple of hours of rain just before the game but both teams adapted themselves to the conditions and played good, class football.
This was not a very exciting game to watch, as play was of a very steady nature.
Jenkins did a bit of trickery and scored Bushey's first goal after 20 minutes play.
Hardy scored the second five minutes later, Shillito intercepted the shot and deflected the ball out of Trevers reach when the keeper might otherwise have effected a save.
"Tiger" Smith replied for the Sun with a smashing shot ten minutes later.
Bushey gained a corner seven minutes after the resumption, Gwynne took the kick and placed the ball beautifully for Pearson to head well out of Trevers' reach into the net.
This was the only goal scored in the second half and turned out to be the last of the match.
