Berkhamsted 2 Oxhey Jets 4                    Spartan South Midlands Premier     5th May 2018

Wow, Just Wow. Jets Keep Their Hopes Alive

Wow, what a day, what a performance and two stunning headers to put Jets into a hopeful position. The maths were straightforward on the day. To avoid the “bottom spot in the FA relegation guessing game” Jets had to win by two goals clear to edge above Cockfosters on goals scored to at least ease their mind that the bolt on drop box was gone, the problem was it was away to promoted Berkhamsted who are on fire.
New boss Tim O’Sullivan gave the most rallying talk and sent his new troops out to pull off the unexpected haul to safety that just five days ago looked a dream not reality.
A massive 171 crowd and the Berko ultras and kids teams were roaring their team on the promotion carnival day, but Jets had to respond, and the prize they were chasing was survival in the Premier division.
In the bright sunshine, the battle commenced, and both sides had periods of play, Jets at 0-0 looked more up for the day, and they had to be. Early exchanges were hopeful but they often are, and two big scrambles around the penalty area built Jets hopes but no net bulge to cheer them.
Then the breakthrough with Andy Amoah getting a low searcher across the box and young Vass Mandeville coolly placing the ball past the home keeper to inch perfection 0-1 (24 mins).
This was Jets best period in the draining heat, and it was end to end. Berko equalised and it was a very disputed penalty. The ref explained later that Tom Gibson had fouled the attacker outside the area, but played the advantage and he believed he fouled again putting arms around him inside. The striker held off the defenders before getting a rifle shot in, but was denied by a stunning save from 16 years old Juliusz Pazio who was thrown into action for his debut on Thursday in the 3-0 home win against Hoddesdon due to a keeper injury crisis. The referee decided that since he didn’t score he gets the penalty, not sure about this one, it’s like two bites of the cherry, but the logic is fair and explained and Adam Mead hammered home 1-1 (33 mins).
The match was highly competitive and a couple of yellows followed in the end to end game. Vass then picked up a well deserved yellow for a late and clumsy one, but Berko found themselves down to ten men when a coming together on Vass got out of hand, a mad decision that will cost the player his St Marys cup final place next week due to this suspension.
Jets also suffered a significant blow losing skipper Jude Bell, injured and playing well, but the 1:1 bench cover having Jack Halcomb coming on meant no change in the team formation and Jack carried on perfectly.

Halftime 1-1. Jets still have the same job to do but half the time to do it.
The heat was another worry for Jets. We usually fade so today was hot and draining, but we can’t ease off. Pat Fallon, Tim's assistant, warned, “keep something in the tank for the last ten” words that were to come so true !!
Andy Amoah again provided the cross box ball for Chris Blunden to latch onto to slot against one of his former clubs this season 1-2 (58 mins) and the dream is back on.
Berko responded, throwing on some big guns from the bench, the sort of subs that, if you are the opposition, makes your heart sink. Still, though, Jets kept at the game plan, but then disaster as slack play turned a Jets attack into a Berko goal. With Jets caught upfield because they had to get the all-important +2 goals margin, Berko sprung, and Ollie Cox (64 mins) levelled it.
Would this melt Jets? Scott Pugsley came off having given his all and another teenager Isaac Ebelebe came on, and the move was to be highly prosperous.
In the last ten now and Jets think just a win might keep them off the dreaded bottom spot. Time is running out then Isaac crossed a pinpoint cross to Jets Mister workaholic Tom Gibson who rose like a salmon and headed brilliantly past the arms stretched keeper into the top corner 2-3 (84 min).
Was it possible? Jets attacked again from the kick-off and debut from reserves kid Olawale Salami on his first start in the first team dropped a pinpoint cross for the young centre-half, Vass Mandeville, to head home 2-4 (86 mins). The crowd erupted as it became clear Jets had a good few supporters in the mass crowd. It was scenes of joy as the escape just might be possible now.
The corner flag became Jets best friend because every time they got the ball that’s where they went with it. As they battled and battled to run the clock down and hold that lead, the win looked secure, but Jets had to have the two-goal lead to jump Cockfosters in the table who had completed their fixtures.
Four minutes of added time and finally the whistle and the celebrations. Had you not known the teams you would have thought that jets were promoted. Today pride was restored, the team gave all and they presented Tim with some thinking as he rebuilds the Jets team that has been in free fall since Xmas. Now they have shown that with the right motivation and commitment they can and did live with one of the best in the league.
An individual Man of the match was impossible to give, so many had given their all. The crowd said young Vass but to be fair Jets had players who could hardly walk afterwards, so drained having done everything for the club. Tim O’Sullivan had the last word on the subject; the award was to the team, they have brought Jets back to life and made us smile again. Now the uncomfortable wait on other results but they know that the bolt on no reprieve bottom spot is not having our name on it.

Sun Postal Sports 2 Chipperfield Corinthians 2         Herts County League   Prem         1995/96

Sun Sports drew 2-2 with Chipperfield Corinthians on Saturday but made a case for taking all there points.
Jim Harrison's 20 yard shot gave Sun the lead after only three minutes, but Chipperfield were 2-1 up by half time.
Sean Houghton pounced on a goal-keeping error for the equaliser before Warren Birch headed in a corner to put them 2-1 up.
Sun had the best of the second half but did not convert a point until Andy Wood converted Alan Langdale's cross in the 86th minute.
"We were all over them in the second half," said Sun's Tom Barber.
Sun Postal Sports 2 Met. Police Bushey 0            Herts County League   Prem                 1995/96

Met Police Bushey lost vital ground when they went down 2-0 to Sun Postal while Chipperfield Corinthians fell further off the pace with a 2-1 defeat at leaders Elliott Star.
The Police gave a poor display and had no complaints at the result, leaving spokesman Jim Howard to reflect: "It looks like we are playing for the runners up spot now".
Sun felt they should have been ahead early on when Jim Harrison beat Police keeper Trevor Turnbull to a long ball and headed it past him and into the net.
The pair subsequently collided and the referee awarded the Police a free kick.
"It was a woeful decision, even their players were laughing," said Sun's Tom Barber.
However, Sun went ahead after 24 minutes when Andy Wood unleashed a 25 yard screamer which gave Turnbull no chance.
Harrison hit the post before the interval but, a minute after the break, Phil Walker scored the second with a typical close-range finish.
The Police finished the stronger but the game was beyond them by then.
"I thought we played better when they beat us 3-0 earlier in the season," said Barber
Oxhey Jets 0 Sun Postal Sports 3                Herts County League   Prem                1995/96

Oxhey Jets are slipping into the mire and were not helped by a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Sun Postal.
Sun do not have a good record at Chilwell Gardens but had the game won by half time, taking a 3-0 lead.
Darren Hardwick headed them in front from a corner and Alan Langdale scored a fine second, taking his time after controlling a through-ball.
James Keen volleyed the third from a half cleared corner but Jets prevented a severe beating with an improved second half display.
"We could have had a couple more but they didn't fold in the second half," said Sun's Terry Hows.
Jets' manager is likely to wield the axe after this latest setback.
"It was our worst performance for a long time. Certain players looked heartless and Sun destroyed us in the first half," said Jets' John Elliott.
Bovingdon 0 Sun Postal Sports 2                Herts County League   Prem             1995/96

A 2-0 win over Bovingdon did little to hide the fact that Sun Postals are struggling for goals.
A return of 26 from 21 games makes them among the division's lowest scorers and they failed to improve their tally much on Saturday.
"For the amount of possession we had, we should have created a lot more. There is nothing happening for us in the final third," admitted Sun's Terry Hows.
The first half was reasonably tight with Bovingdon wasting their best moment when a fine cross from Paul Gregory went unconverted.
The breakthrough came after 65 minutes when Paddy Gallagher stopped a goalbound shot but then turned to toe-poke the ball home.
Ten minutes later a miss kick in the Bovingdon area left Phil Walker with time and space to score the second.
Sun Postal Sports 1 Bragbury Athletic 1             Herts County League   Prem              1995/96

It was an afternoon to forget for Sun Postal as they were held 1-1 by Bragbury Athletic.
Doug Taylor gave Sun the lead midway through the first half when he was left unmarked at a corner.
Bragbury levelled just after the break and Sun only really pushed their claims for a win towards the end, after the introduction of substitute Phil Walker.
"We were very poor, we didn't come alive for the first hour," said Sun's Terry Hows.

Sun Postal Sports 2 Elliott Star 2              Herts County League     Prem                 1995/96

Sun Postal grabbed two late goals to force a draw against one of the championship contenders Elliott Star.
Elliott were 2-0 up thanks to goals in the first and second periods.
The first deceived stand in keeper Trevor Davis as it bounced awkwardly.
Davis is in the side while Simon Bartley recovers from injury.
Phil Walker gave Sun hope when he poked home in the 81st minute after latching on to an Alan Langdale flick-on.
Then Langdale was bundled over in the box and Andy Wood belted home the penalty with seconds remaining.
Sun's Tom Barber said, "We didn't play well, Elliott are the best side we have faced this season, but we are pleased we managed to battle back so well."
On Saturday Sun face another acid test when they meet another of the leading sides, Colney Heath.
St Peters 0 Sun Postal Sports 2                 Aubrey Cup 2nd Rd                       1995/96

Phil Walker and Doug Taylor's blossoming  partnership in attack provided the impetus behind Sun Postal Sports' comfortable progression into the third round.
Walker struck first in the 12th minute, his predatory instincts helping him to his sixth goal in the last seven matches.
Then goal-scorer turned goal-provider on the stroke of half time.
Walker split St Peters' defence with an intelligent through-ball, and Taylor's finish was immaculate.
St Peters rarely threatened to impose any sustained pressure on Sun, whose domination of the match was not fairly reflected in the 2-0 scoreline.
It was a stylish and assured victory by Sun, with Walker and Taylor in majestic form.
Met. Police Bushey 3 Sun Postal Sports 0                Herts County League              1995/96

Met Police Bushey beat Sun Postal 3-0, despite being totally dominated in the first half.
Met Police's Colin Hay said, " We were played off the park for the whole of the first half and looked to be on a hiding to nothing, but we weathered the storm and managed to hit them on the break."
Renny Grant struck soon after the interval and then added a second on the hour mark.
Martin Howard buried Sun with the third in the 75th minute.
For Sun, Darren Hardwick and Phil Walker were thwarted by the woodwork.
Sun's Tom Barber said, "I cant understand how we didn't take the lead in the first half. We were on top throughout but we couldn't make it tell."
"When they scored we didn't have any answers. Really we should have been in charge of things long before they got into the game."
Sun Postal Sports 2 Welwyn Garden City 0                  Herts County League   Prem         1995/96

Sun Postal cruised past Welwyn 2-0 thanks to an Andy Wood free kick and a Phil Walker strike.
Two late injuries to Doug Taylor and Alan Langdale forced Sun to reshuffle their team but they coped against a Welwyn side who came to stop Sun playing their game.
Simon Bartley saved a penalty to keep Sun in control.

Sun Postal Sports 2 Tring Athletic 0            Herts Centenary Trophy  1st Rd         1995/96

In the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy, Sun Postal Sports upset South Midlands league side Tring Athletic.
It was a fine result for Sun to knock out a side used to playing against sterner opposition week-in, week-out.
Sun's Tom Barber said: "The players lifted themselves for the game and played very well."
"Whether it was because we raised our game or perhaps they had an off-day but there certainly didn't seem to be much of a gap between the two sides."
"We deserved to win because everyone gelled together to form a team unit that was very difficult to break down."
Sun had to wait until eight minutes into the second half before they broke the deadlock.
Alan Langdale finished off a superb six-man move that flowed from one end of the pitch to the other.
Then Phil Walker sealed a safe passage into the second round, scoring his fourth goal in four games.
John Pettifer sent in a stinging shot from almost 30 yards that the Tring keeper failed to hold.
Who should be there but Walker to punish the hapless keeper for his mistake.
Bragbury Athletic 0 Sun Postal Sports 3        Herts County League    Prem            1995/96

Sun Postal turned on the style to whack Bragbury Athletic 3-0 on their own turf.
Andy Wood broke the deadlock after 19 minutes when he converted a penalty.
He was hauled down in the box and picked himself up to confidently despatch the spot kick.
Sun controlled the game from then on but had to wait until the 71st minute before their possession was translated into a second goal.
Danny Wadmore connected with a corner and then Phil Walker added a third in the 74th minute.
Walker, still not 100 per cent fit according to Sun management, is consistently popping up with the goals.
Tom Barber said; "We were wonderful to watch on Saturday. I think it was the best performance of the season so far."
Cuffley 1 Sun Postal Sports 2              Aubrey Cup 1st Rd                1995/96

Holders Sun Postal Sports should have had their tie at Cuffley in the bag long before Phil Walker scored the extra time winner.
Sun were on top for the majority of the game but were unable to make all their possession count.
Tom Barber said; "We were in brilliant form on Saturday. I haven't seen them play so well for a long time. It was incredible that we didn't have the game won before half time."
"What was even more amazing was that we went behind just three minutes into extra time. If they had won it, it would have been a totally false result."
Fortunately Sun fought back and Mark Gregory connected with Andy Wood's left wing cross to head the equaliser.
From then on there was only going to be one winner and substitute Phil Walker popped up to score a fine goal.
"Walker has been injured lately and he is not match fit at the moment. He would not have lasted a full game but when he came on he was the most lively player on the pitch," said Barber.
Sun Postal Sports 2 Bedmond Social 2              Herts County League    Prem        1995/96

Sun Postal scored early against Bedmond Social but had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Dougie Taylor found the net in the tenth minute and Darren Hardwick extended their advantage before Bedmond staged a valiant comeback.
Sun's Tom Barber said; "We had long periods of pressure we should have made more of but in the end we paid for not making the game ours when we were in control."

Wormley Rovers 0 Sun Postal Sports 1         Herts County League    Prem       1995/96

After a dismal first half which was only illuminated by a 25 yard effort form Andy Wood that was well saved, Sun Postal finally turned possession into one goal and then three points against Wormley
Paul Jones was commanding in a defence which gave Wormley barely a sniff.
At the other end, second half chances came and went before Sun won the game in the 72nd minute.
Having gained possession in midfield, Sun broke quickly and Doug Taylor played a one-two with Mark Gregory before firing into the bottom left corner.
In the closing stages Simon Bartley prevented a travesty with a superb double save.
"I don't think Wormley will stay near the bottom for to long. They make it very difficult," said Sun's Tom Barber.
Sandridge Rovers 0 Sun Postal Sports 1         Herts County League     Prem     1995/96

Goal shy Sun Postal will be hoping the 1-0 win at champions Sandridge Rovers signals a change in their recent poor fortune.
And they will be hoping to build on Saturday's 1-0 win over the defending champions by posting a comfortable win over bottom side Wormley tomorrow.
With just eight goals from their opening ten games, finding the net has been the main problem.
Sun's Terry Hows admits: "We just seem to be lacking in confidence when we get into the box."
"Against Sandridge we were under pressure as long as it stayed 0-0 but when the break-through came you could see the side relax and start to play some good football."
"Wormley are bottom and we will be looking at that game as one we want to score a few goals in, but with us in our position, they could be looking at us and thinking the same."
Darren Hardwick scored the all important winner on 55 minutes with a fine individual goal.
He picked the ball up 35 yards from goal, carried it to the edge of the box and struck a sweet left foot shot into the corner of the Rovers net.
Sun Postal Sports 3 Oxhey Jets 1            Herts County League   Prem        1995/96

With a large number of players returning form suspension this weekend, Sun Postal face selection problems of the nicest kind following their 3-1 win over Oxhey Jets.
Sun could even afford to miss a penalty when Michael Woolner had his kick saved superbly by Martin Cottrell.
They made the breakthrough on the stroke of half time, Mark Gregory firing in from the edge of the box after a corner had been cleared.
It took until the 83rd minute for the second goal to arrive, full back Darren Rowe pouncing on a rebound.
A minute from the end Sun killed the game, John White starting and finishing a superb five man move.
Paul Dupree scored a late consolation for Oxhey.
"We didn't really play any differently to recent weeks, we just didn't make any stupid mistakes," said Sun's Tom Barber.

Kings Langley 1 Sun Postal Sports 0         Herts County League    Prem            1995/96

On Saturday Sun went down 1-0 to Kings Langley in a game that resembled the dour meeting between the two in the Aubrey Cup Final last season.
Sun had most of the play but chances were few and the game was decided when a bad bounce and some hesitant defending left Nick Read in the clear in the 65th minute.
"They had most of the play but I can't remember a chance for either team besides the goal," said Langley boss Kevin Andrews.
Sun Postal Sports 1 Bovingdon 0          Herts County League    Prem           1995/96

Sun Postal broke their duck in midweek against Bovingdon.
The only goal came in the 70th minute when Bradley Dunning scored a well worked free kick.
"We didn't make any mistakes," said Sun's Tom Barber. "The win was very welcome but we weren't panicking because we know we have a lot of players to come back in."

Sun Postal Sports 1 Colney Heath 2                  Herts County League    Prem     1995/96

High flying Colney Heath made the most of Sun Postal's generosity to claim a 2-1 victory.
A Michael Woolner penalty almost earned Sun a point but, in a game of very few chances, Sun's lax moments at the back were very costly.
"We defended like schoolchildren and gave them two goals on a plate," said Sun's Tom Barber.

Chipperfield Corinthians 1 Sun Postal Sports 1          Herts County League   Prem     1995/96

Sun's confidence was given a lift when they earned a point in a 1-1 draw with Chipperfield Corinthians on Tuesday night.
Chipperfield went ahead after 60 minutes when Spencer Wicks forced the ball in after a corner.
However, Sun became the first team to score against Chipperfield this season when Phil Walker netted from the penalty spot in the 70th minute after Darren Hardwick had been brought down by Mark Deuce.

Somersett Ambury V&E 4 Sun Postal Sports 1       Herts County League   Prem       1995/96

There was no let up for Sun Postal as they were thumped 4-1 by Somersett Ambury.
Only trailing 1-0 at the break to a late first half goal, Sun were 3-0 down before Doug Taylor, guilty of a miss from two yards before the interval, headed home.
However, Ambury restored their three goal advantage late on.
"At half time I thought we had been slightly the better team but we played village green stuff in the second half," admitted Sun's Terry Hows.

Sun Postal Sports 0 Oxhey Jets 2                Herts County League    Prem              2000/01

Three sent off in Jets' derby win over Sun

Oxhey Jets triumphed 2-0 over local rival Oxhey Jets on Saturday in an ill-tempered affair which saw three players take an early shower.
Two of the players were sent off in what Oxhey Jets manager John Elliott described as "five minutes of madness".
Jets' Paul Harris was the first to see red for violent conduct before Gary Page became involved in a scuffle with a Sun Postal Sports player.
Both players were yellow carded but Sun Sports' Gary Beadle, who later became involved, was sent off, making it ten-a-side.
The final sending off was from Sun's Wade Walker, who was shown his second yellow card for dissent.
Gary Munnelly scored Jets' first, passing the ball into an open net after 15 minutes before Gary Page wrapped up the match with a good effort with 12 minutes remaining.
It was a fairly even match that could have gone either way.
Jets had to ride their luck at times as keeper David Green made some crucial saves with his feet.

Sun Postal Sports Reserves 1 Codicote Reserves 5       Reserve Cup Final             1999/2000

Shock defeat for Sun

Underdogs Codicote Reserves strode to an extra time win over Sun Postal Sports Reserves in the Reserves Cup Final on Saturday at Whitewebbs.
Despite being a division lower, Codicote enjoyed a mixture of good luck and excellent football to produce the shock win.
Sun dominated the first half and took the lead before the break and, with many of the Codicote players aged 30 and over, it seemed as if Sun would run away with the clash in the second half.
Instead, Codicote levelled after 55 minutes and an even battle followed with both keepers performing well.
In extra time, Codicote took an early lead with a very good goal when the forward broke away and rounded the keeper.
Two minutes later, Sun were punished by a freak goal.
Codicote attacked and Sun cleared the ball to the half way line, Codicote then hoofed the ball forward, it bounced ten yards from goal and over the keeper's head, despite his desperate back pedalling.
Sun Sports were demoralised by this and two more Codicote goals followed in the second period of extra time - an own goal and a fifth on the stroke of full time.
Sun Postal Sports 0 Bedmond Social 1                 Aubrey Cup Final                1999/2000

Bedmond sink Sun to lift Aubrey after 20 year wait

Jubilant Bedmond Sports & Social ended a two decade wait when they lifted the Aubrey Cup on Monday.
Bedmond last won the cup in 1980/81, but have been unable to repeat the feat until this year when they defeated Premier Division rival in a tight game at Baldock Town.
It could be the first of a double for Bedmond - they contest the final of the Cherry Red Books Capital Counties Feeder League's Trophy on Saturday, May 13.
"The Aubrey Cup has become like the Holy grail for the club, so I am well pleased," said boss Chris Godman. "We have been trying to win it for 20 years."
"We lost in the final to Leavesden in 1984 and I have lost in eight semi finals since then. With all the club's success in the 80's, the Aubrey Cup eluded us."
"We were the better side for 70 minutes, but we were put under some pressure in the last 20 minutes. Everyone did well, particularly the keeper, defence and midfield, with Mark Campion playing very well."
Chances were few in a first half played largely in midfield and slightly edged by Bedmond in terms of possession.
Bedmond created a few half chances, notable when John Dugdale and Nick Jones combined on the right, setting up Richard Johnson whose shot was blocked.
Then Marc Fryer's free kick was headed wide of the post by Mark Campion and, just before the break, Matt Bowen fired a shot over the crossbar.
Sun came out in the second half, looking fired up from a half time rollicking and, almost immediately, carl Bull crossed for Michael Woolner, but his shot was straight at Bedmond's impressive keeper Andy Hopping.
After 51 minutes, Bedmond came close when Bowen fired an excellent cross into the box which flashed by the far post, needing only a touch from the lingering Fryer and Jones.
But, two minutes later, they were ahead through a set piece.
Matt Bowen fired a beautifully struck free kick into the top corner to finally break the deadlock.
For 15 more minutes, Bedmond threatened to extend their advantage.
Substitute Leigh Edmunds hit a shot on the turn, then Bowen fired a long ball into the danger area with Glynn Spurr's attempted overhead kick going wide.
Bowen had another shot blocked, hitting the rebound over the crossbar.
Then, on 73 minutes, Sun thought they had levelled when ben Cowen headed home following a goalmouth scramble.
But celebrations soon turned sour when an assistant referee flagged for a handball.
However, the setback seemed to spur the trailing team on and they subjected Bedmond to attack after attack in the final minutes.
Kingshot stepped up his game and was a constant threat to the Bedmond keeper.
After 80 minutes, Kingshot fired an acute angled shot from the right to produce a tremendous save by Hopping, who turned the ball around the post for a corner.
Then Tony Masters, who worked hard and showed good skills, flicked the ball on for Cowen whose lofted shot was caught by Hopping.
Perhaps Sun came closest to an equaliser when yet another shot by Kingshot was well parried, with the rebound falling for Michael Woolner whose spectacular overhead was blocked.
During six minutes of injury time, Kingshot's cross was touched wide of the post by Michael Woolner and Kingshot again shot wide of the goal.
"We didn't perform for a large part of the game and we are capable of more," said Sun's Terry Hows.
"The midfield and forwards were disappointing. Daryl Kingshot was probably our best player, but Bedmond worked hard for the win."

Sun Postal Sports: Bartley, Tyers, Brown, Kingshot, McLaren, Masters, Wood, Catlin, Bull, M Woolner, Cowen.
Subs: Walker, Gladdy, Gallagher, S Woolner, Hewitt.

Sun Postal Sports Reserves 3 Oxhey Jets Reserves 2       Reserve Cup semi- final       1999/2000

Sun Postal Sports Reserves booked their place in the reserve Cup Final after holding on to defeat Oxhey Jets Reserves 3-2 in the semi-final.
Jimmy Harrison opened Sun's account with the first of a double strike but by half time Jets had pulled level at 1-1.
Deon Osbourne restored Sun's lead with a spectacular overhead kick but Jets reduced the score to 3-2 with 20 minutes remaining.
Sun's nerves could have been eased had Wayne Gladdy's strike counted - but the referee ruled the goal out after the ball had burst through the side netting.
Fortunately for Sun, it did not cost them their place in the final where they will meet Codicote or Colney Green.
Bedmond Social 3 Sun Postal Sports 3         Herts County League    Prem               1999/2000

The two Aubrey Cup finalists met in the league in an entertaining 3-3 draw.
Carl Bull opened the score for Sun and Ben Cowen added two more but Bedmond's late equaliser levelled the score
Agrevo Sports 0 Sun Postal Sports 2                       Aubrey Cup semi-final                    1999/2000

Sun Postal Sports had a slightly easier passage, defeating Agrevo Sports 2-0.
But Sun had to wait until the last ten minutes for their anxieties to be eased when they scored their second.
Sun's Terry Hows said: "We were the better side but our quality in front of goal was lacking. We missed a couple of good chances to put the game beyond them. They worked hard but we deserved the win."
Sun had to cope without three key players who were suspended but were put at ease after 15 minutes when Ben Cowen's superbly volleyed home form 20 yards.
Agrevo thought they had pulled level when they converted a direct free kick but Sun  were relieved to see the referee disallow the goal because he had not blown for the kick to be taken.
On 75 minutes, defender Alex Brown rose at a corner to ensure Sun victory.
Hows added, "We have to show Bedmond a lot of respect in the final because they have only been beaten a few times this season. but we will have our suspended players back for it and hopefully we will be at full strength.
Sun Postal Sports 1 Benington 0                       Herts County League   Prem          1999/2000

A 65th minute goal from midfielder Carl Bull sealed three points for Sun Postal Sports against Benington.
Still set to contest two cup semi finals, Sun maintained fourth spot in the Premier Division with a good team performance in a physical contest.
"We missed some good chances, but at least we are creating opportunities," said Terry Hows.
Oxhey Jets 0 Sun Postal Sports 4                    Herts County League   Prem                 1999/2000

Oxhey Jets' John Elliott said a "shake up" was on the cards after a dismal 4-0 loss to Sun Postal Sports.
"Some players don't seem to care whether we win or lose," said Elliott.
"The team seems to give up when they are losing. I was not impressed with the attitude in the last 20 minutes."
After a good first half showing, Jets were disappointed to go into the break 1-0 down, with Sun working hard to provide the base for their win.
Sun netted from the spot in the second half and, from that point on, it was all one way traffic, with Jets' keeper David Jacks not having a good day as Ben Cowen (two), Micky Woolner and Wade Walker all found a way past him.

Sun Postal Sports 5 Elliott Star 0                   Aubrey Cup 1/4 Final                        1999/2000

Sun will face Agrevo Sports in their Aubrey Cup semi-final after overcoming Elliott Star.
Micky Woolner provided a two goal lead within ten minutes, but Sun relaxed after the early flurry and Elliott fought back.
The third did not arrive until ten minutes after the break when Matt Catlin, back from injury, netted on his debut.
From this point, the game opened up, as Elliott threw caution to the wind and Sun netted again through Ben Cowen and were then granted an own goal.

Sandridge Rovers 5 Sun Postal Sports 4            Herts County League    Prem         1999/2000

Rovers recover from three goal deficit to shatter Sun

After leading by a comfortable 4-1 margin at half time, Sun Postal Sports were left shell shocked as Sandridge Rovers rallied to seal an unlikely 5-4 victory.
Second placed Sun though three points were in the bag before the second half saw a complete change of fortunes.
"It is so disappointing that all that hard work went to waste," said Sun's Terry Hows.
"We didn't play badly in the second half, and were still the better side, and I thought we were going to go on and score more."
"But we were unlucky in front of goal in the second half, and left feeling very frustrated."
Sandridge opened the scoring in the nine goal thriller before Sun netter four times through Michael Woolner (two), Ben Cowen and Wayne Gladdy.
With the wind behind them after the break, Sandridge played the long ball game well and stole all three points.

Sun Postal Sports 1 Wormley Rovers 1              Herts County League     Prem         1999/2000

If Sun Postal Sports are to catch Wormley Rovers for the Premier Division honours then victory in the top of the table clash was vital, but boss Terry Hows says he was pleased with  a point.
"It was important we didn't get beaten," said that Sun manager, "We put maximum effort in, but didn't play that well."
Wayne Gladdy opened the scoring in the first half and keeper Simon Bartley protected the early lead with some excellent work between the stick.
But, following Sun's best period mid-way through the second half, Wormley struck the leveller for a final score of 1-1 in a competitive game.

Sun set for crunch clash with leaders to maintain title push

High flying Sun Postal Sports prepared for a crunch clash with runaway leaders Wormley Rovers tomorrow (Saturday) with an emphatic Christmas victory.
Currently trailing Wormley by ten points, Sun played well in a 4-1 thrashing of bottom club Hatfield Town.
Four different players found the target - Ben Cowen, Andrew Wood, Mick Woolner and Wayne Gladdy - in a win which could have been even more emphatic considering the number of chances created by the home side.
Victory against Wormley is vital if Sun are to keep hopes of alive of a championship season.

Met. Police Bushey 3 Sun Postal Sports 3              Aubrey Cup 1st Rd                        1999/2000

A bad tempered cup game between Met police Bushey and Sun Postal Sports finished 3-3 after extra time.
Sun drew first blood when they slotted home a penalty, but Police levelled in the same fashion thanks to Rennie Grant and then took the lead with a Micky Poole header.
The game was even again at 2-2 when Sun equalised after 80 minutes and then controversially took the lead after Police were denied what they believed was a free kick, only for Sun to go straight up the other end and score.
As a result of some arguing, Police had a man sent off, but Victor St Ange kept their hopes alive with a superb diving volley for a 3-3 score after 90 minutes.
Police had their backs to the wall in extra time and show cased some tremendous performances, particularly from defender Matt Primus in his best game for the club, and also Kevin Ramsey and Chris Cutmore.
Sun Postal Sports 3 Sandridge Rovers 1              Herts County League     Prem             1999/2000

The only team currently challenging run away leaders Wormley Rovers is Sun Postal Sports, who strengthened their title claim with a 3-1 win over Sandridge Rovers.
In one of their better performances this season, Sun dominated after conceding an early goal - scoring through Michael Woolner and Ben Cowen to secure a 2-1 lead at half time.
Playing against the wind after the break, Sun were still in control and increased their lead with Cowen's second of the day after 80 minutes.
A Sandridge penalty attempt hit the post in the final minutes, but it was a comfortable win for confident Sun.

Oxhey Jets 0 Sun Postal Sports 4              Herts Senior Trophy  1st Rd                      1999/2000

Sun Postal Sports sealed a comfortable 4-0 win over an Oxhey Jets side fielding a mixture of first, second and third team players.
Tony Masters opened the scoring with his first goal since coming back from Bedmond and Ben Cowen made it 2-0 before the break.
Jets fought back in the second half, pushing a man forward, but Sun doubled their lead through Michael Woolner and substitute Jim Harrison.

Benington 0 Sun Postal Sports 5                Herts County League      Prem              1999/2000

Sun break fruitless run against Benington with first ever win

At the ninth time of asking, Sun Postal Sports finally defeated Premier rival Benington on Saturday.
Having failed to beat their opposition in previous league clashes, Sun's cause received a boost when Benington were reduced to ten men after tempers rose early on.
Sun took the lead soon after as Micky Woolner was rewarded for his hard working performance with a four goal haul and ben Cowen added the fifth in a satisfying 5-0 win for the Premier front runners.
Bushey Rangers 0 Sun Postal Sports 5                    Herts County League    Prem          1999/2000

In the Premier Division, Bushey Rangers had a depressing afternoon as they lost 5-0 to Sun postal Sports.
Rangers have now conceded 15 goals in two weeks after the previous weekend's nightmare as Sun showed no mercy.
Goals for Sun were scored by Michael Woolner (two), Carl Bull, Ben Cowen and Andrew Wood.

Hatfield Town 1 Sun Postal Sports  3                  Herts County League    Prem             1999/2000

Sun Postal Sports finished their game against Hatfield Town feeling thankful to have bagged three points.
Ben Cowen gave Sun the advantage just before the break, but an 80 yard run resulted in Hatfield's leveller.
The score remained at 1-1 until the 85th minute when Jim Harrison netted, followed three minutes later by Cowen's second of the day.

Sun Postal Sports 4 Agrevo Sports 1                  Herts County League     Prem               2000/01

Sun Sports could afford to take their foot off the pedal after leaving Agrevo stunned with three goals in the opening 20 minutes.
Chris Hewitt opened the score with a rare header before Michael Woolner (two) and Andrew Wood added to the score in Sun's 4-1 success.
But manager Terry Hows was disappointed with his team's effort late in the game after effectively securing the points so early on.
However, he is confident Sun can offer more this season.
He said: "The score line probably looked better than it was and although we're pleased to be second, we are not firing on all cylinders yet
Sun Postal Sports 3 Met. Police Bushey 1            Herts County League   Prem          2000/01

Met Police Bushey's Jim Howard slammed his team as having "no fire and no fight" after they slumped to a 3-1 defeat to Sun Postal Sports.
"It was awful," said Howard, after Police conceded three goals in a ten minute spell in the first half.
Newly arrived from Hillingdon, Ben Cowen bagged a brace on his debut for Sun and Alex Brown netted the third.
Sun Postal Sports 3 Met. Police Bushey 3 (Sun win 7-6 on pens)      Aubrey Cup 1st Rd Replay   1999/2000

The most competitive match of the day was probably the Aubrey Cup replay between Sun Postal Sports and Met Police Bushey.
Penalties were needed to decide the encounter, with Sun keeper Simon Bartley emerging as the hero for a spectacular winning save.
Before the 90 minutes were completed, Sun had recovered from 3-1 down with 15 minutes remaining when Michael Woolner netted his second of the day and Alex Brown hit an 88th minute equaliser.
Police had previously scored through Scott Ladley (two) and Matt Primus, but once again they failed to kill the game off when in a dominant position.
Both sides scored their first three spot kicks, both missed their fourth and both netted their fifth.
In sudden death, both missed the sixth, before Bartley saved and Paddy Gallagher fired home the winner.
Police goalkeeper Chris Chandler played well to save two penalties.

Nash Mills Sports 3 Sun Engraving 1                  Watford Medal 2nd Rd       1935/36

Nash Mills Sports eclipse the Sun

The Vicarage Road ground being vacant on Saturday owing to Watford's cup tie match at Leicester and the Watford reserves away match at West Ham, a match in the second round of the Watford Medal Competition was played between Nash Mills Sports and Sun Engraving.
A small crowd saw quite an interesting game, and at the same time were kept informed of the state of the cup tie at Leicester.
The Sun had the better of the early play, and Hobbs, in Nash Mills goal, saved twice in smart fashion.
from what was practically their first chance, Nash Mills scored Payne, their outside right, tried a long cross-shot which caught Mitchell by surprise, the ball going under the bar into the far corner of the net.
From good work on the Sun right wing, Southam shot over the bar, and soon afterwards missed an easy chance when the ball was crossed by Rodwell.
Then Callow burst through, but, shooting as Hobbs ran out, missed by a foot.
Nash Mills goalkeeper, who had a knock previously, was hurt again, but soon resumed.
A long drive by Russell was turned over the bar by Mitchell.
A centre by Taylor sent the ball running along the bar.
At the interval Nash Mills were one up.
The Sun went all out for an equaliser, and Hobbs was once almost caught napping when the opposing forwards swooped down on him and he only gathered the ball at the second attempt.
A smart shot by centre forward Hobbs was saved by Mitchell, but a second gaol came to Nash Mills through Bates, who shot through a crowd of players.
The Sun were , at this time, one short, but the injured man returned to the field shortly afterwards.
Nash Mills were lasting on the heavy ground better than their opponents, who were content to try long shots which were badly directed.
Southam came out with a sparkling run and square centre, Hobbs running out and falling on the ball.
The Nash Mills goalkeeper left his goal unguarded, and Cooper, shooting from a distance at the empty net, drove the ball onto the bottom of the post.
Eventually Southam dashed onto a cross from the right and put the ball into the net, but the Sun were unable to get on terms.
They failed because they did not take their chances.
Southam made a good impression.
the chief credit for the victory must go to the Nash Mills backs.
The game started twenty minutes behind time owing to the late arrival of Nash Mills.

Shaftesbury Athletic 6 Sun Engraving 0                 Herts Junior Cup Semi-Final             1935/36

Sun crumble against Shaftesbury

After more or less holding their own, Sun Engraving collapsed in the second half against Shaftesbury Athletic in the Western Divisional semi-final of the Herts Junior Cup on Saturday at Water Lane Recreation ground.
The Athletic won by 6-0.
The game was very fast with the Sun very keen to lower the home club's colours.
The Athletic defence, however, remained very firm under pressure.
A Jackson netted the only goal of the first half.
On the resumption the visitors again set the pace and made a great effort to get on terms without success.
W Jackson put Shaftesbury two ahead.
The leaders continued to hold the upper hand, and C Ellis came along with four lovely goals.
Mr Baron was a capable referee.

The Sun shine in the fog - fourteen against Welwyn

Entertaining Welwyn in the Herts County League on Saturday, the Sun Engraving won by 14-1.
The Sun had two reserve backs on duty, Davis and Cartwright being with the Herts Junior eleven, but this had no effect on the team, for as the score suggests, they monopolised the play.
The score at half time was 8-1, the Welwyn goal coming from a breakaway through Davis.
G Callow (3), C Hunt (2), R Brown (2) and Telfer scored the Sun's goals, and after the interval Callow (3), Hunt (2) and Brown added further goals.
Welwyn could find no method to cope with the fast raids of the home attack.
The referee, Mr W Leach, controlled the game well.

The Sun behind a cloud

At Whippendell Road on Saturday, in the first round of the St Mary's Cup, Rickmansworth defeated Sun Engraving by 3 goals to 1.
Despite the rain soaked ground both teams put up a good show.
The Sun were the first to score, Southam beating Halsey, and they held this lead until half time.
Rickmansworth started off the second half in grand style, and twice had goals disallowed, before Stonnell equalised with a hard ground shot which beat Mitchell all ends up.
About ten minutes later, Payne gave Rickmansworth the lead and five minutes from time Gibson put the seal on Rickmansworth's success.
The visitors deserved their victory, but all twenty two players played well in view of the conditions.

Sun's easy victory

Sun Engraving, although playing two reserves, scored an easy victory over Watford Clarence in the Herts Junior Cup at Whippendell Road on Saturday, to the tune of 7 goals to 2.
For the first quarter of an hour the game was even but afterwards the Sun asserted their superiority.
The two reserves had a good match, Rodwell registering a hat trick and Nickelson scoring two good goal.
Hunt and Cooper obtained the other two goals, and for Clarence Robinson and Hutt scored from breakaways.
The score at half time was 4-1.
Watford Clarence fought pluckily until the final whistle.

Sun Engraving 0 North Watford Sports 5    Watford & District League Div One      1934/35

North Watford go nap

There were several factors in favour of a great struggle being witnessed at Whippendell Road on Saturday, between Sun Engraving  and North Watford Sports in the Watford and District League.
The visitors were out to upset the Sun Engraving's unbeaten league record, while the homesters wanted revenge for three cup defeats at the hands of the Sports this season.
Both teams were at full strength, and the large crowd which gathered in anticipation of a fast and thrilling encounter were not disappointed.
Even though North Watford gained a clear cut victory by five goals, the game was fast and exciting, and the Sports did not have matters all their own way.
The winners were quicker on the ball and displayed superior all round team work.
Right from the kick off the Sports were on top, all the forwards were in a lively mood and dangerous in front of goal.
Mitchell, in the home goal, brought off some remarkable saves during the first twenty minutes, but was eventually beaten when Andrews headed through from Hindley's centre.
Undismayed the Sun fought back, and their forwards made some nice movements.
The Sports defence, however, gave little away.
Just before half time, Wise, the Sports ever dangerous centre forward, scored with a fine shot taken on the run.
Almost from the kick off,  Wise ran between the backs and gave Mitchell no chance with a grand shot.
The home team started the second half minus a player, who was injured just prior to the interval.
Sun Engraving, despite this handicap, fought with pluck, and were decidedly unfortunate not to reduce the arrears, although the finishing of the forwards left a lot to be desired.
Wise completed his hat trick and put the Sports four goals ahead.
Practically on the restart the Sports swept down the field, and Hindley hit the bar with a crashing drive.
Wise put in some nice constructive work which enabled Smith to complete the scoring.
Sun Engraving missed a penalty and were easily held until the final whistle.
At no time during the season have the Sports played better, each man pulling his weight.
By reason of this win the North Watford club must be regarded as firm favourites for league honours as they have five games in hand and have only lost two points.

Sun Engraving 4 Kings Langley 0               Rickmansworth Charity Cup                  1934/35

Rough game at Whippendell Road

The encounter between Sun Engraving and Kings Langley at Watford on Saturday in the Rickmansworth Charity Cup, will not be remembered as a game for its finer points.
Tempers were too easily ruffled.
Kings Langley played far below their usual form, but were unlucky to have a blank score sheet for the first time this season.
An effort by Luckett in the first half and one by Ansell in the second session merited a score.
Vaughan gave an excellent display in the visiting goal and saved a penalty.

Sun Engraving Reserves 2 Kingham Athletic 2     Watford & District League Div 3     1934/35

Kingham force a draw

Although twice in arrears and handicapped by an injury to Field, Kingham Athletic succeeded in forcing Sun Engraving Reserves to a 2-2 draw, in the Watford & District League, Division Three at Whippendell Road on Saturday.
Field was injured just before half time, when the score was 2-1 in favour of the home side, and was unable to continue.
Sun Engraving scored through Rodwell (2), and Aylott scored twice for Kingham's.

Sun Engraving Reserves.- Savage; Riddle, Cartwright; Tomblin, Burton, Badger; Rodwell, Trevoro, Legge, Emery, Hutchings.

Sun Engraving lose in extra time - Player taken to hospital

Although having the fortune to win the toss for ground, Sun Engraving had little further luck in the final of the St Mary's Cup on Saturday.
Some 20 minutes after the start, Brown, their sharp-shooting centre forward, had to go off injured, and was unable to take any further part in the game.
He strained several muscles in his back, and was removed to hospital the same day for X-Ray examination.
Bushey took the lead in the first half through Noble, the Sun Engraving equalising a minute after the interval through Hindley, who converted a centre by Southam.
Sun Engraving fought pluckily, despite their handicap.
The ground was in a bad state in consequence of the storm, and in the circumstances the extra time decision created surprise.
Bushey scored two minutes from the end through Noble, the slippery ball beating Trevers after he had saved the shot.
On the play, Bushey were fortunate to succeed, and a draw would have been a more equitable result.

Watford St Mary's 3 Sun Engraving 2             Watford Medal Final              1933/34

Sun Engraving's defeat after extra time

Watford St Mary's 3 (Hamilton, Smith 2)......Sun Engraving 2  (Hindley, Southam)

After their convincing display in the semi-final the previous week, Sun Engraving were expected to prove successful in winning the Watford FC Medal Competition final for the first time on Monday evening at Vicarage Road.
Unfortunately Davies, centre half, and Brown, centre forward, two of their most talented players, were unable to turn out owing to injuries, and after extra time Watford St Mary's won the cup by the odd goal in five.
The game was hard fought, and there was little between the teams.
All the Watford FC directors were present, and after the match the chairman, Mr J Kilby, presented the cup to St Mary's captain, C Martindale, and medals to all the players of both sides.
Mr H W Flint, Chairman of the committee of the competition expressed the clubs' appreciation of he interest of Watford FC.
Fortunes fluctuated from start to finish and one could never be sure which way the advantage was likely to go.
St Mary's made a flying start by getting two opportunist goals in the early stages.
Sun Engraving, however, fought back strongly, and levelled the scores before half time, and seemed likely to win, but fell away and allowed the Saints to dominate most of the second half.
St Mary's could not crown their clever approach work by accurate finishing, and, in a final spurt the Sun all but forced victory.
The extra time found both teams tired, but there was no lack of keenness, and after thrills in each goalmouth, St Mary's snatched a winning goal and carried off the trophy for the third time since its inception in 1926/27.
Had the Sun Engraving attack been led by brown, whose deadly finishing was a feature of the semi-final, with Davies as pivot, they would have probably have gained a comfortable victory.
Cartwright proved no match for Floyd, and the losers neglected the obvious move of transferring Southam, their most useful attacker, to centre forward.
The Sun halves excelled in a constructive sense, Green being perhaps the best half back afield, but the rearguard lacked understanding.
St Mary's defence played splendidly, and the halves were a dogged rather than clever trio.
Sears and Hamilton worked the ball well, and Smith was a lively leader of the attack, his last goal being a fine effort.
Had St Mary's shot as accurately as they passed, J Trevers would have had a hectic evening in the
Sun Engraving goal, but the winners' forwards were generally disinclined to have a go at goal until within very close range.
It must be recorded that two of the St Mary's goals had a distinct flavour of offside, and there were two instances of hands n their penalty area which escaped punishment when they scarcely deserved to do so.
Cartwright shot over and G Trevers sent wide in an early series of attacks by the Sun, whose defence was holding up the St Mary's vanguard well.
J Trevers came out to effect two good clearances, but in a goalmouth scramble Hamilton gave St Mary's the lead.
Smith put through a second from a pass by R Martindale, from which he appeared to be offside, but there was no appeal by the Sun.
Southam scored a curious goal for the Sun: gaining possession almost on the goal line and two or three yards from the post, he drove the ball across the goal and en route it hit G Martindale on the leg and was diverted into the net.
During warm pressure by the Sun, G Martindale handled in front of goal but the punishment of a penalty was not inflicted by the referee.
Hindley equalised by heading in a fine centre by Southam, this being easily the best goal yet scored.
The second half started dully, the first thrill coming when Smith pulled the ball into the net from a centre by Quint.
Floyd grazed the bar with a fast drive.
J Trevers saved well in the Sun Engraving goal during a determined siege by St Mary's, who forced the pace and were the better side in nearly every department.
G Trevers, who moved to inside right, nearly scored when the Sun broke through, but Eames tipped over with fine judgment.
Another case of "hands" in the St Mary's box went unchecked by the referee, and G Trevers shot poorly with a splendid opening.
Both teams were tired, and the extra time began in scrappy fashion.
J Trevers saved well for the Sun, and G Martindale kept out a scoring shot by Southam.
The Sun goal had a lucky escape with Trevers out of goal, a defender relieving a half minute's tension by clearing to the wing.
Smith scored in the second half of the addendum after a smart burst following a pass by Bull, who certainly seemed to have been just offside when the ball was passed to him.

Sun Engraving 5 Penfolds 0           Watford Medal Semi-Final                 1933/34

Victory with ten men

As a result of the semi-finals of he Watford FC Medal Competition played at Vicarage Road on Monday and Thursday, Sun Engraving and Watford St Mary's will meet in the final on Monday.
The match will take place at the Vicarage Road ground.
Although reduced to ten men within a few minutes of the start, owing to Smith receiving a cut and developing haemorrhage into the eye, the Sun Engraving were always superior to Penfolds in both defence and attack.
They gained a grip on the game in the early stages, and, even though a man short, seldom relaxed it.
Although they frequently attacked, Penfolds, utilising a close passing game, merely played into their opponents hands, and their finishing was poor.

Sun Engraving.- J Trevers; Smith, Price; Green, Davies, Brooks; G Trevers, Hindley, Brown, Hunt, Southam.

Played at Garston on Saturday, this game proved a stern tussle.
A Jackson headed in a from a corner after twenty minutes play, and this was the only goal of the first half.
A quarter of an hour after he interval, four goals were scored within five minutes, C Wakelin (2) for Benskin's, and W Hinley and R Brown for the "Sun" being the marksmen.
Fifteen minutes from time the home team consolidated their lead with a somewhat fortunate goal by W Jackson.

Borough 4 Sun Engraving 2      Watford & District Second Division Play-Off Final     1925/26

Watford League 2 Champions

The match, played on Callowland Recreation ground on Saturday, was for the championship of the Second Division of the Watford & District League.
The Borough won the toss, and took advantage of the slope, and within ten minutes took the lead, W Reeves being the marksman.
E Osborn increased their lead, scoring from 35 yards' range.
The Borough were the most dangerous in attack, and after many raids, W Brewer brought the score to three goals.
Just before the interval, the Sun Engraving obtained a goal, the score at half time being 3-1 in the Borough's favour.
The second half brought many injuries, mostly due to the hard state of the ground.
A foul on Brewer in the penalty area resulted in their lead being 4-1, A Platt making no mistake with spot kick.
Sun Engraving attacked, and were rewarded with a penalty, their left back scoring.
The result was
Borough 4 Sun Engraving 2
After the match, Mr G Timberlake presented the shield to the winners and a medal to each of the competing players.

Wesley Polytechnic 3 Sun Engraving 5        Watford & District League   Div One        1925/26

Wesley Polytechnic entertained Sun Engraving on Saturday last, the latter winning 5-3.
The Polytechnic had the ascendency for the first half hour, and received some reward through a fine goal scored by their inside right.
The Sun Engraving players then made a great effort and equalised, this being the fine combination of the Brooks brothers.
The Polytechnic then pressed continuously, but could not score.
Just before half time a goal was allowed which was apparently punched into the net by a Sun Engraving player.
In the second half the play favoured the Polytechnic, but as the Sun Engraving obtained three more goals to the Polytechnic's two, the former were returned winners of a very sternly contested match.
Watford Locomotive United 8 Sun Engraving 1      Watford & District Charity Cup 1st Rd    1925/26

Watford Loco, United passed rather easily into the second round of the Watford & District Charity Cup on Saturday, when playing on the Callowland Recreation ground, they defeated Sun Engraving 8-1.
The heavy rain falling just before the kick off made the ground very bad, especially in the goals, which were more or less under water.
Goals were plentiful, for the home side put in five in the first half and three in the second.
The scorers being Banfield (2), Dyer (2), Ayres (2), F Meecham (from a penalty), and J Meecham.
Hutton scored for the Sun Engraving.
Ling, who usually plays centre forward for the Loco., turned out at left back, but was not a great success in his new position.
Dyer played extremely well in the front rank, his shooting being very good.
Bates, in goal, saved several times when he looked certain to be beaten.
The Sun Engraving were by no means played out, although the score was heavy against them.
Their centre forward and two inside men often caused the Loco. custodian a deal of anxiety, and Hutton, who scored, really deserved more success with his shots.
Watford St Mary's 3 Sun Engraving 1        Watford & District League Div One            1924/25

Watford St Mary's still unbeaten

St Mary's played Sun Engraving on Saturday, and won by 3-1.
Smith (2) and Rawlings scored for the Saints, Hutton replying for the Sun Engraving.
