Bushey Rangers 0 Sun Sports 1 Herts County League Prem 1994/95
Contrasting fortunes at opposite end of the table were summed up as a defensive disaster kept Sun Sports in contention for the title and pushed Bushey Rangers closer to the relegation door.
It was generally not a good night for Rangers who, despite their perilous position, have found loyalty in the ranks hard to come by.
"One player did not turn up and another came along on the night but said he couldn't play," said Rangers' John Burrows.
However, it looked as if the struggling Moatfield side were going to take a point and further hamper Sun's bid to catch Sandridge, but then disaster struck.
A Darren Hardwick shot was parried by keeper Mark Strawbridge but, in an effort to clear as the ball ran towards the empty goal, defender Andy Allum hammered it against Strawbridge and it ricocheted into the net for the only goal of the game.
"That just about sums our season up," said Burrows, "We are getting no luck at all. The lads on the pitch tried their hearts out and then lost to a goal like that."
However, Burrows did have some words of encouragement for Sun.
"We've played Sun and Sandridge in four days and Sun are by far the better side. Sandridge didn't really impress us. they are organised but that's about it," he said.
Sun's Terry Hows admitted that his side did not care how the goals go in.
"We just need a win in every game, no matter how it happens," he said. "We didn't play well but we had a lot of pressure."
