Sun Sports 3 Bovingdon 2 Herts County League Prem 1994/95
Wood's last minute winner maintain Sun's title chase
A last minute goal from Andy Wood maintained Sun Sports' hopes of retaining the Premier League title.
After seeing Bovingdon fight back from 2-0 down to level before half time, Sun finally found a way through some stubborn defending right at the death, when Wood hit an angled 20 yard free kick into the net, via the inside of the post.
"It was no more than we deserved," said Sun's Tom Barber, "We were more on top than the final score suggests."
However, the gilt was taken off the victory somewhat as Richie Galvin, an influential figure over the last few weeks, limped off with a knee injury shortly after Sun had gone 2-0 up.
Sun took the lead as early as the 10th minute when Mark Ash headed home a Doug Taylor cross.
Twelve minutes later Wood had a shot parried and Phil Walker was on hand to fire Sun further in front.
However, the loss of Galvin appeared to affect Sun's rhythm and Bovingdon came storming back, scoring twice in the last five minutes of the half to draw level.
Bovingdon may have had visions of following their victory over Sandridge with another over the Sun, but they had reckoned without Wood's last gasp minute winner.
that win lifted Sun to third but with so many games still to play, each one is vital and none more so than tomorrow#s (Saturday) clash with Chipperfield Corinthians.
