Sun will curse Oxhey if championship slips away
If Sun Sports fail in their bid to overhaul Sandridge and win the Premier Division, they will have every reason to curse Oxhey Jets.
Jets, so often the cannon fodder in the past, completed the double over Sun on Saturday when they beat them 3-1, adding to the 4-1 victory earlier in the season.
While Sun now face and ever tougher task to retain the title, the victory increases Jets' hopes of finishing in the top three.
The first half was goalless although Jet's Colin Jenkins missed a golden chance as early as the second minute when he fired wide of an open goal.
However, jets made the breakthrough after 64 minutes. Paul Dupree made a storming run into the Sun box, turned and then tucked the ball away.
Six minutes later it was 2-0, Chris Bellotti challenging for a long ball and Andy Doyle on hand to put the ball in the net when it ran loose.
A sliced clearance from jet's defender Alan fear was pic ked up by keeper Martin Cottrell and the referee decided it was a back-pass and awarded Sun a free kick.
Darren Hardwick stepped up and smacked the ball into the roof of the net from six yards.
That could have led to a nervous last few minutes for Jets but they wrapped the points up a minute from time when Ian Holdom ran half the pitch before crashing in a shot from just inside the box.
The win was a major blow for Sun, who had been boosted when leaders Sandridge dropped two points against struggling Knebworth in midweek.
"They deserved their win in the second half," admitted Sun's Terry Hows, "The first half had 0-0 written all over it but they took control in the second half."
