Goalkeeper Gary Boarder was taken to hospital after just 20 minutes with a suspected trapped nerve in his ankle - and full back Jimmy Totton took over the green jersey.
Boarder saw a specialist this week.
Manager Keith Hargreaves said: "Under the circumstances I was pleased to pick up a point."
Sun were also without key players John Furie and Denny Fletcher and it  was the first game back for defender Kenny Littleboy, who has been out injured since the start of the season.
Roger Cowans headed an equaliser just before the interval and Sun managed to hold out in the second half, with Totten making several saves.
