From Watford Observer                            1977/78                        West Herts League Div One

Sun Sports are "Champs"

Sun Sports "A" are the new Division One Champions of the West Herts League.
Their five goal victory over one time title contenders Ambassadors leaves them six points clear at the top and barring a remarkable run-in by second place Kodak, which would mean winning their last three games by six clear goals, the title is assured.
Saturday's game which won them Premier Division football very nearly did not take place.
At 3 o'clock the referee had not turned up and Ambassadors had embarked on a five-a-side between themselves.
But as the Sun players were leaving the ground they noticed the referee driving past and a quick dash to the changing rooms saw the game kick off 26 minutes late.
Lenny Stickland gave Sun a half time lead with two well taken goals and promotion was assured in the second half when Charlie Lavender, Trevor Murrey and captain Ray Groves all netted.
"It's really great to have won the championship, no one gave us much hope when we were second from the bottom at the beginning of the season, but we have proved them all wrong." said Sun manager Jim Kempster.
