Sun Sports 2 Bushey Rangers 0                      1975/76                    Herts Intermediate Cup Final

Opportunism wins cup

Two moments of opportunism ensured that the Herts Intermediate Cup found its way into the Sun Sports camp when they defeated Bushey Rangers at Leavesden Hospital on Saturday.
These two moments were the only bright spots in an otherwise dull game between two side that could not come to terms with a strong, shifting wind and bouncy surface.
Bushey started brightly enough knocking the ball around in fine style but failed miserably as soon as they came within striking distance of goal.
Chief culprit was Jackie Cooper who disappointed many with his wild shooting and unproductive passing. But all credit must go to Sun who went into the lead on the half-hour when Hugh Boycott-Brown latched onto a long through ball and lobbed it over the head of goalkeeper Keith Phillips - caught off his line.
Rangers fought back desperately to get back on to level terms but found themselves outnumbered by the Sports' massed defence, and having any likely looking crosses cut out by goalkeeper, Dave Wilson.
They too, found themselves run ragged at the back by the perpetual action of nippy Ray Cole, and the daunting presence of Boycott-Brown.
And it was slackness in defence that allowed Sun their second goal.
Dennis Fletcher ramming home a cross ball in the 69th minute after the Bushey rearguard had been caught napping.
It was that goal that sealed the fate of Rangers, despite the substitution of Alan Carter for Tony Moth, a hopeful ploy intended to add more striking power.

Sun Sports: Wilson, Littleboy, Thompson, Seabrook, Murphy, Fletcher, Hutton, Churchill, Boycott-Brown, Cole, East
