Tudor Corinthians 2 Sun Sports 2                               1975/76                                    HCL Prem

Sunshine display

Sun Sports made a mockery of their lowly Herts County League position when they turned in a fine first half display against Tudor Corinthians at Baldwins Lane on Saturday to lead 2-1 at the interval.
Tudors took an eight minute lead through Clive Petty who rapped home, after Alan Brownsell had sped down the left to the line and pulled the ball back in Petty's path.
After the goal Sun went for the equaliser and Alan Potts hit the woodwork almost immediately after the re-start.
Then Ray Cole had a header stopped on the line.
Sun's effort's were finally rewarded when Potts took the ball to the line after beating two men, and pulled across the area for Tony Evident to hammer in a thunderbolt of a shot, which was helped in by Cole in the 19th minute.
Tudors at that time were limited only to sporadic attacks, and their forwards were often caught napping in possession of the ball.
Potts crowned a brilliant first half performance when he collected the ball on the half way line and crashed a screaming 30 yarder past goalkeeper Keith Maddox in the 35th minute.
The Watford side continued to press forward and were denied by the woodwork, and some steadfast defence play by Martin Brown and John Washington.
Corinthians approached the second half with a lot more initiative, and succeeded in pinning Sun in their own half for most of the time.
Alan Brownsell was given a chance to level the score when he was elected to take a free kick on the edge of the box, but hit the attempt straight at the wall.
Then Washington, whose probing runs along the right flank caused consternation in the Sun defence, set up a chance for Clive Petty who shot wide.
Tudors' equaliser came after 65 minutes when Brian Wilson latched on to a rebound and bore down on the Sun goal, rounded goalkeeper Dave Wilson and slotted it home.
The final quarter of an hour became a little more even, with both sides striving for the equaliser.
Sun's speedy striker Cole had the best of the many chances, when he was twice left with only the goalkeeper to beat, but bundled both attempts wide.
Tudors manager, former Watford goalkeeper Keith Warn commentated: "On this showing, I can't understand why Sun are placed so low."
