Wingate 6 Sun Sports 1 1985/86 Aubrey Cup Semi-Final
Semi-final misery for Sun
Sun suffered heartbreak on Saturday as they bowed out of the Herts Senior County League's Aubrey Cup at the final hurdle.
Sun were beaten 6-1 by the impressive Wingate side.
Sun boss Graham Legg had few complaints about the defeat at Wingate, but was unhappy with the county League for making his side play an important match on Thursday night.
"Wingate had a free week and we were made to play Rolls Royce just two days before the semi-final," complained Legg.
The match with Rolls proved disastrous.
They lost 5-2 but more importantly lost goalkeeper Dave Vart with a broken arm.
Young Paul Freeman was called up for the Wingate match, but was not at fault for the goals that cost Sun a final place.
"They are a very good side, but it didn't help our build up by playing two days before," added Legg.
