ICL (Letchworth) 0  Sun Sports Reserves 1                   1972/73                         HCL Div One

SENT OFF - Brawling colleagues

Two Sun Sports Reserve players were sent off on Saturday - for fighting each other - in this season's strangest incident.
Only four minutes play had passed in Sun's Division One match with bottom club ICL (Letchworth) when angry words were exchanged between Don Keen and Marvin Attwood.
Words were quickly swapped for punches and although players of both teams struggled to intervene, the amazing scrap continued.
When they were finally separated, both players were inevitably ordered off.
The Sun club later slapped a suspension on both men pending a full enquiry by the club committee.
Reduced in numbers to nine men and in spirit to a bewildered low, Sun suffered another body blow in the tenth minute when defender Mel Robinson was injured.
Robinson limped gallantly on as the character emerged in the Sun camp.
Sun battled magnificently to overcome their crippling problems, and clinched a memorable match with a goal from the outstanding Colin Brown.

Banned from club

Don Keen and Marvin Attwood, the two Sun Sports players who seem to have set a local precedent by being sent off for fighting each other, will never play for the club again.
The Sun committee met to discuss the incident in which the two men were sent off after just four minutes of a Division One match at Letchworth on March 3rd, and afterwards secretary Dick Hebborn stated that they have both been banned.
Keen has in fact already tendered a letter of resignation from the club.
Mr Hebborn added that, prompted by this unusual incident, Sun are to have a general clampdown on discipline.
"We have had 50 years experience in the County League in which time nothing like this has happened before. We want to make sure that nothing like it ever happens again," he said.
