Sandy Albion 0 Sun Sports 2 1978/79 FA Vase Preliminary Rd
Sun shine
Sun Sports progressed to the second round of the prestigious FA Vase for the first time on Saturday with a two goal victory over South Midland League side Sandy Albion.
And with Rolls Royce and Leggatts Way OB both succumbing to the higher opposition, Sun also became the only local side in the hat for the next round.
"It was a great victory for us," enthused Sun's manager Graham Seabrook.
"We really worked hard and deserved our success."
For the first 15 minutes the County League side came under a lot of pressure, but a brilliant save by Clive Thomas changed the pattern of the game.
"It was like Gordon Banks's save from the Pele header in the Mexico World Cup." said Seabrook.
Immediately afterwards Denny Rayner volleyed Sun in front and ten minutes later, good running by Steve Seabrook, who had an outstanding game, forced the home side to concede an own goal.
And it was a lead Sun never let slip.
