Roger Cowan, made captain for the day in the absence of regular skipper John Furie, scored Sun's match winning goal late in the game.
Winger Neil Border broke down the right and his low centre was turned in by Cowan with 15 minutes remaining.
However, the real hero of the afternoon was goalkeeper Gary Boarder who, despite playing with an injured hand, managed top prevent the tie going into extra time with a superb save minutes from the end.
Sun had three players booked during the hard fought match - Neil Border, Andy Morton and Dave Lamb.
