Berkhamsted v Sun Sports  11th August 2015  SSML Premier

Sun lose again to their bogey team

There was no doubt that there was confidence in the away dressing room as the Sun Sports players donned their new red and yellow change strip for the visit to Broadwater after Saturday's 5-0 mauling of St Margaretsbury.

As the match kicked off Berkhamsted initially took the game to Sun and had a couple of early chances. First of all a shot was blasted way over the bar (and nearly onto the railway line) by Josh Chamberlain.

The second opportunity came soon after when a free kick was just out of reach of Ross Hampton, falling to burley striker Jermaine Mitchell who made a looping header towards goal which was headed off the line by Scott Bonner.

After that the first half was virtually all Sun Sports.

Sam Warrell had a long range shot and then Sun had a free kick which Nathan Pooley curled in for Scott Bonner to dart past his marker and volley into the net.

1-0 to the Sun.

Shortly after Karl Penny managed to take advantage of the Berko defenders misunderstanding but put the ball wide.

Penny had another chance from a cross on the right side from Lee Butler but his glancing header went the wrong side of the post.

As the first half wore on Berko's Bradley O' Donovan crossed the ball over though Ross Hampton plucked the dangerous looking ball out of the air which Chamberlain was looking to get on the end of.

Karl Penny then had another chance to extend Sun's lead before the half time whistle but the shot was blocked by the ever reliable Berko keeper Carl Tasker.

Early in the second half Berkhamsted started brightly by getting a potential equaliser disallowed as the assistant referee flagged for offside.

But pressure from the following quarter of an hour finally took its toll on Sun as a free kick from Josh Chamberlain was floated in and met by the head of Bradley O' Donovan to make things 1-1.

From a corner Sun's defence failed to clear the ball and Jay Caine's header deflected off O' Donovan but thankfully Hampton was alert to the danger to snatch the ball and clear it upfield.

Then came the moment that changed the match as Bradley O' Donovan held off the challenge from Scott Bonner and O' Donovan with his right foot managed to get the ball past Hampton into the Sun Sports goal to make it 2-1 to The Comrades.

But the game was certainly not over and Sun pressed themselves back into the match.

Dom David had a great chance to get a goal back, he chested the ball down well but by the time it was under control a Berkhamsted defender had got back in time to block the shot.

A long ball was then launched into the area, Lee Butler tried to scoop the ball over Tasker but unfortunately he managed to hold onto the ball without it going over the line.

In time added on a corner was headed out to Nathan Pooley who tried a long range drive but it went wide.

Berkhamsted held on to win the game but it was plain to see that the Sun players knew that they deserved at least a point out of this game, if not all three.
