London Colney v Sun Sports 17th Sept 2016 SSML Premier
At times on Saturday it seemed that there were twelve men against the Sun, eleven players plus the referee.
Whether referees who know that they are being assessed actually changes their decision making on the day remains to be seen but it would seem that the man in the middle wants to make sure that he is being noticed....usually for the wrong reasons.
And there was no doubt that the referee today made some extremely dodgy decisions.
As the game started it was Dom David who had the first decent shot on goal which was palmed away by the London Colney keeper.
Unfortunately that was the one of the few shots actually on target for the Sun for the match.
Eight minutes gone and London Colney took the lead courtesy of a defensive error.
A London Colney player then crashed late into Deji Ikusemori which the sound of a loud crack could be heard by everyone and left Deji writhing on the grass in agony.
People in the crowd of 71 were fearing the worst but the referee seemed reluctant to give the blues player a yellow card although a red would have constituted common sense.
Not long after and the Blueboys were two up when the left winger was found unmarked to slot the ball calmly home and Sun were already looking at a rough away day.
Damien Cruickshank had the space to try a long range shot which went flying over the bar.
The referee then booked Deji Ikusemori for an offence instead of Jamie Speer who actually made the challenge....please look at the players profile's on here and see if you can spot the difference between the two!!
From a un-cleared free kick London Colney then went further ahead and the game was over after barely 30 minutes.
Sun then started to push and pressure the hosts with Dom David weaving in and out of the midfield opposition and attempted a shot but it was blocked by a defender.
Sun did try to get back into the game but found London Colney fast on the counter and oozing with more confidence as the game went on.
On another Colney attack Matty Evans brought down a Colney attacker and the referee pointed to the spot which was successfully converted.
Sun then went upfield and pressured the Blueboys once again and were rewarded after a flurry of good attacking corners with a goal which glided off of a defenders head into the Colney net.
A goal back but was it too little too late?
Unfortunately it was as Colney scored again soon after when Evans dropped the ball after colliding with a defender for a Colney player to knock the ball in to make it 5-1 at half time.
The second half kicked off and with some half time adjustments by the management team the Sun did well to stop Colney scoring again and Jamie Speer had a chance to score after the Colney keeper came out and miscued the ball but the angle was too much.
Sub Alex Ward chased after a long ball which the Colney keeper blatantly handled out of the area, the assistant flagged for the foul and the ref gave the free kick but let the goalkeeper off with a warning and no yellow card.
As time went on Sun seemed more relaxed and knew that although they couldn't win they could certainly try to reduce the deficit as Andy Brennan failed to get on the end of a cross into the six yard area and a Tommy Walsh free kick was turned over the bar.
London Colney remain top of the table while the Sun face their first rough patch of the season after a great start.
