Welwyn Garden City v Sun Sports 26th Sept 2015 SSML Premier
Sun Sports self destructed in the second half of what was looking to be a close game.
The boys in yellow found themselves chasing the game after two quick goals from Nathan Dimmock in the 6th and 9th minute made it an uphill struggle from the start.
Sun valiantly fought back into the game when Dom David found himself in space and had a shot which went wide of the post.
Karl Penny then got the better of his marker on the left but fired a shot wide.
A long looping cross from Ashley Lewis then found Penny again but he couldn't control the ball as it went over the Welwyn keeper and over the bar.
Ashley Lewis and Brima Johnson both found themsleves with a chance to pull a goal back but again the shots were too high as they sailed over the bar, but it showed that Sun were pressing hard to get back into the match as Welwyn sat back on their laurels.
The Welwyn manager must have said some words to his players at half time as they came out for the second half and went on the offensive with a lobbed shot that went over Sun's kepper Ross Hampton but hit the post and was cleared for a corner by Scott Bonner.
Another Sun long ball found Karl Penny who held off his marker and passed the ball off to the left for Jack Johnson to cross the ball. The Welwyn defender didn't clear his lines as Karl Penny closed in quickly to dispossess him, he then took the ball down to the by line and scooped it across the six yard area for an unmarked Dom David to tap in.
Things looked to be going Sun's way and an equaliser looked to be on the cards as Dom David had a long range shot which was just off target.
Then the trouble started, a scuffle turned into a free for all which saw Dom David and Welwyn's Ashley Kersey both sent off.
Ashley Lewis soon followed and after a few minutes a late tackle from club captain Scott Bonner made the referee show the fourth red card of the afternoon and the third for Sun Sports.
Welwyn soon took control of the game and looked like they had a chance to make sure of the points when Ross Hampton collided with a Welwyn player in the penalty area to give The Citizens a penalty.
It seemed that Hampton would be sent off as well but the refeeree decided on leniency on this occasion...maybe because if Ross Hampton was shown the red card then the match would have had to have been abandoned.
The penalty was taken and Hampton made a great save to keep eight man Sun still in the game.
However from the resulting corner Jason Caswell headed the ball down low and hard to make it 3-1 to Welwyn and virtually game over for Sun in the 82nd minute.
But insult was added to injury as Welwyn scored again twice more in the closing minutes to make the result look decidedly worse than it really was and the remaining eight men of Sun must take full credit for not giving in and making Welwyn work hard for the three points.
