Hadley v Sun Sports 23rd November 2016 SSML Premier
The 45 people who turned up at Brickfield Lane on Wednesday night were treated to a classic game of football with goals galore making the spectacle an ideal advert for the Spartan South Midlands League and non league football in general.
Hadley, who are surprisingly part of the bottom of the table pack, looked good and surely won’t be down there come April time.
They showed flair and determination and had some decent players who showed promise.
The Sun showed some signs of tiredness at times, but after their marathon of three extremely tough matches against Biggleswade United, two of which went into extra time, you couldn’t blame them.
And it was Hadley who got the ball rolling in the goal stakes as Lyon managed to get on the end of a close range cross from a set piece to put the Reds in the lead.
Sun had to roll their sleeves up yet again as they found themselves in a battle for points, but, like most games this season, the boys in yellow certainly haven’t been shy at coming forward in attack!
Hadley had a penalty appeal refused after one Hadley player weaved through the Sun defence and then went down in the area in a way that Jurgen Klinsman would have appreciated!!
Chris Blunden had the best chance to get the yellows an equaliser midway through the half and the Sun defence as always put their all into the game and were well organised.
In the second half words must have been spoken in the dressing room as the Sun came out all guns blazing and it was on the counter attack that Gangadeen found space to break away and fire in a shot past Matty Evans to make it 2-0 to Hadley.
Soon after that and the Sun got themselves a lifeline in the shape of an Andy Brennan scrambled goal.
This gave the Sun players, officials and fans hope as they all know that the Sun can outscore anyone on their day….but was this to be their day?
The answer seemed to be yes when a corner was hit hard and low into the six yard area, Garry Wallace dummied the ball and it flew into the back of the net courtesy of a Hadley defender’s knee.
All level now at 2-2.
Now the Sun’s gander was up and they had a glint of 3 points in their eye while the Hadley defence looked deflated.
Kyle Johnson came on as a sub and was used as a target man to chase and hold the ball up.
He turned his marker, went to the by-line then chipped the ball over the Hadley defence to find an unmarked Dom David at the back post who powered his header downwards into the goal.
Get in!!
2-0 down and now 3-2 up!
Hadley tried to come back into the game and certainly had a few more close chances, as did Kyle Johnson for the Sun.
With around seven minutes to go Hadley were given a direct free kick.
Up stepped Tyrone Mullholland to take the kick who floated the ball over the Sun wall and although Matty Evans got a hand to it he couldn’t keep it from going in to make the score level again at 3-3.
A fantastic match and the boys in yellow can be proud of their performance, especially in the second half.
Who needs the Champions League when you can watch games like this for less than third of the price?
