Northampton ON Chenecks v Sun Sports 5th Sept 2015   FA Vase Extra Preliminary Rd

Heartache for Sun as they crash out of the Vase

Sun Sports travelled up to Northampton for the second time within a few weeks and again lost to lesser opposition.

ON Chenecks had a dream start within the few few minutes by taking the lead as the Sun defence failed to clear their lines.

Chenecks had another opportunity not long after but the shot was deflected by Ross Hampton (Who had recently returned from the United States around only 24 hours earlier) onto the post.

After that it was all Sun, from an inswinging corner which the Chenecks keeper mis-timed , the ball fell to Scott Bonner who slid in but the ball hit the outside of his foot and the spinning ball missed the goal completely.

Chenecks then went upfield and had a shot which whizzed across the six yard area, again the ball wasn't cleared by the defence and Sun were lucky that there was no one the end of it to finish it off.

Newly re-signed Sun favourite Ashley Lewis broke down on the right side of the box and was tripped although it took him a little while to decide whether to go down or to stay and try and cross the ball.
Gravity eventually made the choice for him and the referee blew for a penalty.

Joe Kelly stepped up and confidently thumped the ball past the Chenecks keeper to make it 1-1 just before half time.

From the looks of it manager Paul Hobbs had given the Sun lads a stiff talking to at half time as Sun kept Chenecks in their own half for at least a good 20 minutes of the second half.

Sam Warrell found himself free in the box and had a clear header which the Chenecks keeper palmed over the bar.

From the resulting corner Scott Bonner had a diving header which the keeper managed to hold onto.

Chenecks had a rare chance which Hampton turned over the bar.

Sun broke away not long after as Ashley Lewis hit the ball against the crossbar which fell to Dom David who didn't control the ball before shooting so didn't get the ball on target.

A few minutes later and from a corner the ball fell to Joe Kelly who beat his marker and drilled the ball into the six yard area which came to Gary Wallace who hit the ball at close range over the bar.

Another break away for ON Chenecks left Ross Hampton the only man to beat but he did well to stand up until the last moment and managed to block the ball away for a corner.

From a long ball free kick by Jack Johnson the ball fell to Dom David who spun to volley the ball which went past the wrong side of the post.

Minutes later and Ashley Lewis had another chance from a corner who hit the ball hard and low but the Chenecks keeper managed to block the shot with his feet.

As the game went into injury time Chenecks had a corner, once again the Sun Sports defenders failed to clear it as a white shirt got on the end of it and the ball was out of reach of Ross Hampton's despairing dive as it hit the back of the net to break Sun's hearts and send them out of the FA Vase at the earliest stage possible.

At the end of the game Paul Hobbs took his team to the centre circle and gave them all a public rollocking which could probably be heard down the M1.

ON Chencks will go on to meet Berkhsmated in the next round.
