Sun Postal Sports 2 Elliot Star 3   Nov 1998     Herts County league

Shocked Star eclipse Sun

After being on cruise control with 20 minutes remaining, and 2-0 up, Star were hit by two goals.
Then in a dramatic finish they bagged the points with a last minute penalty to notch up an away win.
Star started the game well, taking charge early on, and began winning the midfield struggle with Steve Buss and Danny Plumb adding bite. And it was no surprise when in the 35th minute Star took the lead.
Wicks, out on the right wing, drove a high ball into the Sun area and Kevin Cooper running in made no mistake to head home for Star.
At half-time, on the balance of play, Star were in full charge and deserved their lead.
From the restart Matt Jones broke through and brought a fine full length diving save off the Sun keeper.
But in the 60th minute Star went further ahead when a hopeful ball was hit into the penalty area and Jones stole the ball off Sun's keeper to make it 2-0.
Now Sun threw caution to the wind and put Star under the cosh and their number seven put the ball wide of the net when he should have scored. But, in the 80th minute, score they did, when their left- back chipped Rawlings from the edge of the area.
Sun were now blazing and scored their equaliser when a hopeful ball caught Star's defence ball-watching and a Sun forward slotted home the equaliser.
That appeared to be it, but in one last throw of the dice Love went upfield only to be brought down in the Sun penalty area. The referee pointed to the spot and up came Cooper to dispatch the ball with aplomb.
In two weeks time Star meet Sun in an Aubrey Cup tie and this week Star are away at Bovingdon in the second round of the Centenary Cup.
