Sun Sports v Welwyn Garden City 13th December 2016 Premier Division Cup Quarter Final
After Saturday's shock 3-2 home defeat by London Tigers the Sun had to pick themselves up and dust themselves down ahead of the Dudley Latham Premier Division Cup quarter final clash against Welwyn Garden City.
With no forward line of Dom David or Chris Blunden to choose from it was left to the pair of Johnson & Johnson (Kyle and Jack)
The Sun had a dream start when Kyle latched onto a pass on the right and with his speed he left the City left back stranded and knocked the ball under the keeper, the ball rolled along hitting the past and over the line to score the fastest Sun goal this season after around 30 seconds!
An Andy Brennan free kick was lofted into the Welwyn area finding George Hobson whose connection went just past the post.
Then came a moment of magic just before half time from the other Mr Johnson as Jack dinked past two defenders , shrugged off another and struck the ball cleanly to score an outstanding second for the Sun.
The second half was under way and the Sun looked like they were cruising to the semi-final of this competition for the first time in their history.
Welwyn had their first decent chance a few minutes into the half when a cross come shot was headed off the line by Gary Wallace.
Kyle was again in fine form and was beating the Welwyn back four time and time again, this time he only had the keeper to beat and it seemed easier to score then to blast the ball into space. unfortunately the latter was what happened.
Welwyn had their second and last chance with a spectacular over-head kick which went narrowly past the post.
Then the Sun came back into control when a long ball found JJ who beat the offside trap and with only the Welwyn keeper to beat he showed his name sake how to do it as he picked his spot and stayed calm to guide the ball past the keeper and into the net.
3-0 and the game was virtually over.
And the topping on the cake was added minutes later when a Kyle shot was deflected by the Welwyn keeper- kindly falling to JJ who smashed the ball into the goal to claim a first ever hat trick for the Sun!
JJ had the chance to make it four when once again he only had the keeper to beat.
But the keeper was having none of it this time and took JJ down with the ref bringing out an instant red card for the goalie to have an early bath.
JJ wanted to take the spot kick but manager Tom O' Sullivan had already chose who would take the penalties that night.
Up stepped Kyle whose spot kick was not perfect but fair play to the replacement goalkeeper who went the right way to make a save bringing a rather ironic cheer for the Welwyn faithful.
Sun will play Wembley at Bellmountwood Avenue on the 24th January to see who will reach the final of the Dudley Latham Memorial Premier Division Cup final.
