Biggleswade United v Sun Sports       12th November 2016         FA Vase 2nd Rd

Sun Sports travelled to Biggleswade to play in the second round of the FA Vase and came away with a well deserved replay.
Staunch defending was required from the back four throughout the 120 minutes of play by Matty Evans, Damien Cruickshank, Joe Horwood, Gary Wallace and Tom Gibson who all gelled together and made some hard but fair last ditch tackles when required.
Dom David of the Sun (The Biggleswade fans' favourite!) took a free kick which looked like it could have dipped behind the Wade keeper but it was just a little too strong and dropped the other side of the crossbar.
Then a neat move from United saw a shot stopped well by Matty Evans in the Sun goal as the game flowed from one attack to the other from both teams.
After a United corner which saw them go close with a header going just over the bar, Chris Blunden finally had a chance to get into the area with the ball but his shot was saved by the United keeper.
Next to have a go for the Sun was Biggles old boy Adam Drakulic whose shot whizzed just past the post.
Then came the moment that Sun fans were hoping for as a Dom David corner found Gary Wallace unmarked on the near post whose header found the back of the net.
Damien Cruickshank found himself down the right wing and beat his man to the by line to put in a dangerous cross into the six yard area which if there had been a Sun player there could have made it 2-0 but it wasn't to be and the Sun had to go in for their half time orange only the one goal up.
Biggleswade United came at the Sun from the start of the second half as was expected, but the Sun had the first real attempt at goal when Andy Brennan was given the space to move and put in a delightful looping shot which made the United keeper frantically back peddle to palm the ball over the bar.
But United always looked dangerous when they had the ball and kept pumping the ball up to their big number nine to hold and lay the ball off to make another attack.
And their pressure finally paid off when a free kick was floated into the Sun area by Farrell and found Wright to head the ball into the net to make it 1-1.
With around ten minutes to go Dom David was taken off, much to the disappointment of some United fans who had been sharing some banter with him throughout the game and gave him a round of applause as he was replaced.
Back to the match though and United looked to be getting the upper hand as Sun players started to tire, and a great Matty Evans save from short range kept the Sun in the game and in the Vase.
As the game went into extra time you could tell that this would end with only one more goal and United had the most chances but failed to taken them.
Hearts were in Sun's fans mouths near the end of extra time after a United substitute nut-megged Cruickshank and Gibson covering slid in to get the ball but also the player as well but the whistle stayed away from the referee's lips.
And before the ref could whistle for the end of proceedings the Sun players gave it their all and found that extra bit of fitness and effort to go up-field for a final hurrah as Blunden again found himself in space to try and knock the ball past the United keeper but the keeper kept him out for a corner.
And it was that man again Gary Wallace who headed the ball from the corner goal-bound which was deflected by the keeper and then cleared off the line by a United defender to cause the two teams to meet again on Tuesday night in the replay.
