Hoddesdon Town v Sun Sports   30th January 2016    SSML Premier

To quote a famous football cliche, "it's a game of two halves"

And this was certainly a game of two halves.

Hoddesdon Town, famous in non league circles for being the first ever winners of the FA Vase, currently second in the table and recently been given approval to improve their Lowfield ground in case of promotion, hosted the Boys in Yellow and it looked like a tough game was on the cards for Paul Hobbs's men.

It looked like the Sun were looking at playing it safe and would counter attack on the break with just Liam James up front to hold the ball up to try and nick a point or three.
And it seemed that it was going to work out after 45 minutes and the game goalless but also pretty much actionless too.
The only real shouting point worthy of note in the first half was the penalty claim that the Lilywhites appealed for in the first few minutes when it looked like Scott Bonner put his hand on Tommy Wade who dropped into the box like a lead balloon.
Sun's only decent chance in the first half was Dom David's hard cross into the six yard box, if there was a yellow shirt there it would have been in....alas it was not to be.
It could have changed the game.

Half time and all looked good for a point.

Then came the second half...
56 minutes into the match and a Hoddesdon free kick wasn't cleared by the Sun defence.
A pinpoint cross from Ed Taylor found Jack Bartlett who power headed the ball towards goal.
Sun keeper Ross Hampton did his best to keep the ball out but the header was too powerful as it hit the roof of the net.
1-0 to Hoddesdon Town.
The goal seemed to give Town a new lease of confidence in themselves and another free kick nearly floated into the Sun net not long after the deadlock was broken.
Then came the goal that decided the game on 65 minutes, and what a goal it was.
The ball was put through the middle and found Mark Summers on the edge of the right hand side of the box.
Seeing Hampton off his line he chipped the ball perfectly and it dipped over the despairing dive of Hampton and into the back of the Sun goal which raised the roof off of the Hoddesdon stand.
A couple of minutes later and the match was well and truly over when Town's Ricky Light beat his marker and slotted a ball through to Mark Summers, Sun's hands went up for an offside claim but the assistant referee kept his flag down, Summers only had Ross Hampton to beat as he came out to try and stop him.
Summers got past Hampton and then calmly dribbled the ball towards the Sun goal and thumped the ball in from the goal line.
3-0 to Hoddesdon Town
Sun unfortunately had no response to this and found it hard going against a team that look a strong bet to finish in the top two.

Colney Heath on Saturday at home for the Sun and hopefully a game to get back into winning ways.
