Sun Sports v Biggleswade United 19th November 21016 SSML Premier
On Saturday the third and final (for now) instalment of the trilogy of Sun v United came to a rather controversial end.
Manager Tim O’Sullivan kept virtually the same team with only a couple of changes of personnel.
United however decided to put some fresh faces into their side including the impressive youngster Charisma Agyemang.
And United certainly looked fresh as they once again took the game to the Sun, with revenge on their minds for Tuesday night’s FA Vase exit.
But once again the Sun defence worked well together keeping the Biggleswade attacks at bay and the hero of Tuesday night, keeper Matty Evans, was involved in the game as early as the third minute when he stopped a shot from Sturniolo.
Sun’s first real foray into the United penalty area was when Chris Blunden had a chance with a header after 24 minutes and when the resulting corner came in an unmarked Scott Bonner had a clear header which looked like it was going in but for the positioning of United’s keeper.
In the second half it was Chris Blunden again who had the space to fire a shot low and hard but again the United keeper was in the right place at the right time to dive down to his left to get his fingers to the ball to push it away for a corner.
But it was United who gained first blood as a cross from the dynamic Agyemang found Sturniolo to head the ball past Evans to make it 1-0 to United.
Ten minutes to the end a flurry of action in the Bigggleswade area saw the Sun hit the crossbar not once but twice, the ball then fell kindly to Chris Blunden who promptly smashed it into the goal for a well deserved equaliser.
But as the referee turned to give the goal the assistant referee was frantically flagging for his attention.
After a brief discussion the referee over ruled the lino to give a goal.
This made the Biggleswade United officials and fans livid, especially as the ref on Tuesday night also disallowed an important decision.
The game continued but neither team seemed to have the energy after the marathon of three games in the space of eight days to be able to take the three points.
After the match Sun boss Tim o’Sullivan said that he asked the assistant referee why he put his flag up, only for the assistant ref to reply that he “Thought he saw something”.
