Sun Sports v Berkhamsted 2nd May 2016 SSML Premier
A historic win for Sun Sports helped give them a bright finish to the 2015/16 season, a campaign that was set out to be a season of consolidation after a fantastic debut season in 2014/15 in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.
Berkhamsted had never lost to the Sun in any competition in their recent history.
Bank Holiday Monday was to be the exception to the rule!
Sun started strong and after a good on target shot from Brima Johnson and a glancing header from Liam James the "fellas in yella" were soon rewarded with a goal from long range via Louis Bircham's right foot after six minutes.
Berkhamsted started to get into the swing of things and found a couple of chances which Ross Hampton did well to save.
Sun pushed up again and with Omar Vasell doing some marvellous holding of the ball in the penalty area as he found Bircham in space who swivelled and found the bottom left corner of the Berko goal to make it 2-0.
Alex Campana linked up with O' Donovan well up front for the Comrades and eventually started to look dangerous, after 37 minutes Campana showed great control and composure to finally beat Hampton to pull a goal back for Berkhamsted.
In the second half Berko started off with a Jim Baldry strike whacking the crossbar which is probably still wobbling even now!
Sun were awarded a free kick which Louis Bircham directed over the wall and into the net to make it 3-1 for Sun and to give Louis his first hat trick for the club.
Berkhamsted tried to get back into the game causing another great save from player of the season Ross Hampton and a couple of minutes later Berko had another shot which went narrowly over the bar.
Sun had another couple of chances and could have made the scoreline even better but all in all it was a fantastic performance from every one on the pitch in yellow which can only give them some much needed confidence for the semi final against Kings Langley on Thursday night.
