Hoddesdon Town v Sun Sports 11th February 2017 SSML Premier
Sun Sports came away from Lowfield on Saturday with three points which must be classed as some of the club’s “bonus points” of the season.
On a freezing cold afternoon with flurries of snow visible the Sun showed that they were up for this game more than their opponents.
Hoddesdon had the first clear attempt on goal with a shot bouncing off the top of the crossbar, from the same incident Tom Gibson had to helped off the pitch with concussion and Deji ikusemori came on earlier than expected.
Tim O’Sullivan had quickly re-shuffle the pack and Andy Brennan was moved from midfield to the vacant left back position.
Kyle Johnson looked sharp at front and had the pace to run at the defence as well as the strength to hold the ball when required.
Hoddesdon thought that they had broken the deadlock halfway through the half but the linesman’s flag was raised for offside.
Half time and it was 0-0.
The second half saw the boys in yellow continue to press hard and didn’t let the opposition intimidate them.
Soon after the restart Jamie Speer found space in the box and let rip, the shot deflected off a Hoddesdon defender wrong-footing the Town keeper as the ball squirmed over the line.
But a goal is a goal and Jamie will certainly be claiming that one, his first goal for the club.
Town had the chance to equalise and hit the crossbar but then a ball over the top found the Sun’s Kyle Johnson beat the offside trap and on a one to one with the goalie held his composure to lob the ball over him to make it 2-0.
Hoddesdon rallied and managed to get a goal back from a free kick on the edge of the box which Matty Evans saw too late to stop from going in.
But before the Lilywhites could try and get an equaliser substitute Dom David was given the freedom to move down the left and coolly passed the ball to Johnson who slotted the ball with his right foot past the keeper to give the Sun a two goal cushion again.
Hoddesdon had a chance to get another goal back but the shot was blasted over the bar from barely six yards.
Sun move up to 12th place
