Hoddesdon Town v Sun Sports        1st November 2016       Herts County Cup 1st Rd

Sun were sent crashing out of the Herts Senior Cup at Lowfield at the first hurdle on Tuesday night.
But it all started brilliantly for the Sun and Kyle Johnson tried a cheeky 40 yard lob catching the Hoddesdon keeper off guard and although the ball smashed against the crossbar it fell kindly for Dom David who volleyed the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 to the Sun after barely a minute.
But things didn't stay that way for long as The Lilywhites were soon level with Hoddesdon's next serious attack.
Joss Lillis scored an equaliser by lobbing the ball over Matty Evans.
And a few minutes after that things went from bad to worse for the boys in yellow from a free kick which Louis Bowen headed at Evans but he failed to hold onto the ball and Bowen kneed the ball into the goal to give Hoddesdon the lead.
Passes then started to go astray and there seemed a little lethargy to chase after the ball as the Sun looked like they were running out of ideas and couldn't wait for the half time whistle to blow.
Matty Evans stopped another Hoddesdon chance with his legs and Joe Horwood was there to head the ball off the line a few minutes later before they could go in for a chance to re-charge and find out how to get back into the game with Tim, Pat and Gary's advice.
And changes were made when Liam James and George Hobson came on for the second half which was mainly Sun's with the majority of possession as Jamie Speer continued to make important tackles which made him the man of the match.
But Hoddesdon broke Sun's hearts with a breakaway goal when Jordan Watson and George Hunt combined with a one-two of headers to put Watson clear with only the Sun keeper to beat to make it 3-1.
The Sun continued to press forward but had to be wary of the Lilywhites counter attacks.
Both Chris Blunden and Kyle Johnson had chances and if they could have got a second goal of the evening then the final minutes would have been a breath taking finale.
But alas it wasn't to be...but the Sun players can once again be proud of a second half performance that even though the result didn't go our way, there will be other games this season when it will do.
