Sun Sports v Holmer Green 22nd August 2015 SSML Premier
Stunned Sun succumb to goal grabbing Green
The match started strong for Sun with Dom David having a shot blocked by Holmer keeper Sweeney’s feet in the first few minutes.
Joe Kelly then broke away down the right wing but his shot went whizzing past the post.
Tom Sloan was then called into action for the first time that day, he spread himself well to block a close range shot from the Holmer Green forward and from the resulting corner Nick Robinson had a clear header courtesy of some through poor marking which went over the bar.
The poor marking from the make-shift back four would come back to haunt Sun later in the game
.
But on 17 minutes Karl Penny got away from his marker after picking up a long ball from Dom David and with only the debutant goalkeeper Sweeney to beat he slotted the ball past him to put Sun 1-0 ahead.
However straight after the re-start Holmer attacked and after a couple of minutes via a cross from Allen they pulled level with a well taken thumping header into the back of the net by Andy Shed
Sun tried to take the initiative again as Dom David pulled a couple of defenders and the keeper to him to the byline, where he passed the ball back to Karl Penny who slightly lost control of the ball before shooting but his shot went wide of the far post.
The yellow's then had another shot which hit the post, bounced back, hit the keeper and yet again went the wrong side of the post.
The action went from end to end and Sloan in goal was again the hero as he came out to block another close range shot from Shed
Holmer came forward once again and nearly broke through but for a great last ditch tackle from Dan Griggs to take the ball away from the forward before he could let loose.
What seemed a clear handball was then denied by the referee as a shot from Karl Penny was blocked by the raised arm of a Holmer defender just before half time.
The second half started with Holmer going forward and within minutes were rewarded with a goal from a cross which wasn't cleared by the Sun defence as unmarked Allen for Holmer popped up to tap the ball over the line to make it 2-1 to the visitors.
Dom David had a couple of close chances but both were blocked by the keeper, the second of these chances fell back to Reon Thomas but his shot was blocked by the fast encroaching defender.
Unperturbed by this Sun continued to press forward when from another attack the ball eventually fell to Captain Gary Wallace but his right footed shot on the edge of the six yard area flew agonising wide.
Dom David then had another go but was surrounded by Holmer green defenders at every twist and turn, despite this he still managed to get a shot off although it went the wrong side of the post....yet again!
Karl Penny found himself with the ball and had another one to one with keeper Sweeney which he finished by expertly lobbing over him to give Sun a well deserved equaliser as Penny started his finger wagging celebration to celebrate!
Things looked like they were looking up for Sun Sports and the fans thought that surely now this would be the turning point of the game, especially as Holmer’s Gary Lines was sent off for a second yellow card for dissent after 74 minutes.
There seemed a bit of confusion in regard to this as Lines went to the dug out, the ref stopped play to come over and give him his marching orders for a second time and as he plodded around the pitch play was continued...until the ref spotted him this time on the terraced side of the ground. Again he stopped the game in mid flow and ordered Lines to go to the dressing room.
Once the game had returned to normal Holmer had got themselves re-arranged and sorted out.
Crouch had a strike on goal from 20 yards out brilliantly saved by Sloan but he couldn't keep out the follow up out from Allen as Holmer Green took the lead again to make it 3-2
Holmer then put all their men behind the ball to try and keep the points and Sun couldn't get the breaks, however Holmer did manage to get another break and on 87 minutes Shed put a fourth goal into the back of the net to rub Sun's noses into it.
Despite the result both of the managers were not happy with the referee’s performance which stopped the game from flowing as it should have done.
Holmer Green now after four league matches have finally managed to get some points on the board but Sun Sports will be scratching their heads as to how this match got away from them with all those missed chances but they also have to look at their rather static defending which at times let them down in the end.
