Langford v Sun Sports 6th December 2016 Challenge Trophy 2nd Rd
The village church bells of Langford rang for joy as the Sun suffered an FA Vase hangover on Tuesday night, coming away from the League Challenge Cup match with their tails between their legs after being knocked out by the Division One club.
Manager Tim O'Sullivan changed a few personnel but that won't take away the fact that Langford thoroughly deserved their win.
Sun started strong and looked confident from the off with a few deft flicks and pieces of showmanship but Langford used the long ball system well and before long the boys in yellow knew they had a fight on their hands.
Langford scored 24 minutes into the game courtesy of Adam Perry firing home after a strong run at the Sun defence.
Dom David, who was playing as a forward with the absence of Chris Blunden, found himself a little out of place and although he had two good first half chances he failed to connect with either of them.
Adam Drakulic looked dangerous and found himself with space to move with the ball in midfield to try and probe for attacks throughout the game and had a couple of long range shots that went narrowly past each post.
Before the end of the first half Dom David found himself with adequate room to shoot after wrong footing a defender but the Langford keeper Karl Gudgin got down well to scramble the ball away for a corner.
At the start of the second half Drakulic again went in search for an equaliser and went down in the box hoping for a penalty but the RAF based ref, who had a good game, waved play on.
The Reds made it 2-0 on 67 minutes when a long throw from Deon Putnam caused confusion in the Sun defence, Joe Horwood missed clearing the near post header, leaving Matty Evans stranded and when the ball wasn't cleared Connor Waite was able to smash the loose ball home to make it 2-0.
With 76 minutes gone Connor Waite, who had looked dangerous throughout the match, burst clear yet again from the Sun defence, but this time his shot deflected to an unmarked Tyler Ingham who chipped the ball over a spread-eagled Matty Evans to put Langford three up
Dom David found Tommy Walsh who had room to spare and passed the ball square to him, Walsh connected well and from 25 yards the ball flew into the back of the net but there was no celebration for the boys in yellow as they knew there was still a job to try to complete.
In the 81st minute Stephen Brooks volleyed in off the post to put the game to bed after pouncing on a loose ball to give Langford a very well deserved victory.
Langford played out of their skins and will meet either Chesham Utd Reserves or Wembley in the next round.
We wish Langford all the very best for the next round and for the rest of the season.
