Sun Sports v London Tigers 9th August 2016 FA Cup Extra Preliminary Rd Replay
They were dancing in the street of Bellmountwood Avenue on Tuesday night as the Sun made double history.
First part of the history was that the replayed game between Sun and the Tigers was the first ever home FA Cup tie played at the Sun Stadium.
History part number two was that the Sun their had first ever FA Cup win to give them a juicy encounter with Evo-Stick Division One side Northwood FC in the next round.
The game started with Tigers pressing forward and trying to break the deadlock early when a corner was headed hard towards goal but was safely turned over by Matty Evans in the Sun goal.
Sun soon took control of the game after that with Dom David making some good moves and a chance for club captain Joe Horwood to put the ball in the back of the net but it squiffed over the bar.
David held the ball up and tackled hard but fair and put in some great crosses, one finding Jack Johnson whos header went narrowly past the post and another not long after found JJ with a glancing header going past the post.
Dom David found himself with the space to have a shot which was covered comfortably by the Tigers keeper.
Chris Blunden then had a one to one with the keeper but the ref had blown for offside.
Sun kept pressing hard and Dom David again found himself with the ball and put a perfect pass though to Jack Johnson who tried to chip the ball over the encrouching keeper but the ball hit the Tigers custodian and went over the bar for a corner.
Half time 0-0
Alex Ward came on for the second half and the subsitution was the best decision of the night from Tim O'Sullivan as Ward brought more control and attacking chances for the Sun.
From a Nathan Pooley corner Gary Wallace was left unmarked to head the ball down which was cleared off the line.
Then completely against the run of play Tigers surged forward and found themselves in front of the Sun goal - it looked like the Tigers would do the same as on Saturday and take an undeserved lead but Evans got his foot to the ball for it to go out for a corner.
A Jamie Speers ball down the right for Dom David gave the Sun another chance to press forward, by now the Tigers were putting two men on David but his tenacity found himself past the two of them to get a cross over which found an unmarked Alex Ward to head the ball towards goal.
The header wasn't a clean head and it seemed to find his arm which knocked the ball over the goal line but despite one claim from a defender the ref saw nothing wrong and the Sun took a well deserved lead.
Not long after that and a Tigers player saw red for a second bookable offence.
Another Pooley corner found Wallace whos header was again cleared of the line.
Jamie Speers found Nathan Pooley who put in a hard cross into the six yard area which Chris Blunden put his leg out to divert the ball into the Tigers goal to make it 2-0.
Tigers tried to get a goal back to get into the game but again Matty Evans saved the day by spreading himself well to block the ball.
When the referee blew the final whistle history was made as the Sun moved into the next round of the Emirates FA Cup for the first time ever.
Northwood will be the next opponents on the 20th August for a tougher test to gain a place in the First Qualifying Round
