Sun Sports manager Paul Hobbs insists his current team are the best footballing side he has led during his three seasons at Bellmount Wood Avenue following a 4-1 win over Leverstock Green on Saturday.
Two first-half goals from Karl Penny were added to after the break by Ashley Lewis – who has returned following a brief stint with Southern League new-boys Kings Langley – and Clement Asanti to give Sun a 4-1 victory on Saturday, with Chris Blunden scoring Green’s consolation.
“This is the third year I have been here and this is the best side I’ve had. I want my players to play in the other team’s third, not mess about with it at the back.
“When we got promoted we had to be direct because that is a tough league. At this level you get a lot more time and space on the ball."
Sun are sixth in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division standings and after a fifth-placed finish last season – having won promotion to the top flight alongside Kings – Hobbs sees no reason why his side cannot match that achievement once again.
“I’m looking to see if we can finish in the same position or higher. We have lost a few players but brought in a new Under-18 side who are doing really well and had won three from three before today (Thursday).”
Sun thrived last season after winning promotion to the Premier Division for the first time and topped the table in the early weeks of the season.
"We took four points from Hertford last season and they are a former Isthmian League side whereas we are a former County League side. Whether they took us a little bit lightly last season we will see on Saturday.”
