Bedmond 2 Sun Sports 3                                    1961/62                              Herts Intermediate Cup

Triumph for Sun's guile

In a hard fought tie at Bedmond on Saturday, Sun had to employ all their guile to emerge winners, although the score-line should have been more weighted in their favour.
In the first half Sun went through the home defence on so many occasions that the interval lead of 2-1 was a mockery of justice.
Bedmond  had more of the forward play in the second period, but the visiting defence gave a capable performance.
Even so, Bedmond  might have saved the game had Reg Baldwin not missed from the penalty spot two minutes after half time.
His spot kick sent the ball against the woodwork.
Sun went ahead after eight minutes through Brian Adkins and maintained a lead to the end.
In the 17th minute Dave Barton curled in a 30 yard free kick.
Both goals had narrow escapes before Dave Muffett reduced the leeway.
Sun took heart from Baldwin's penalty miss to score their third goal through Johnny Wise, but it was clear that Bedmond were showing signs of revival and Dave Sumner reduced the lead.
It was about this time that Sun goalkeeper Butler was injured and Wise took over in goal.
But Bedmond could make no further headway.
They were just not dangerous enough in the target area.
