Sun Sports 0 Hitchin Town Reserves 3 1965/66 Herts Intermediate Cup
Sun out of Herts Cup
For the first time since the end of August Sun Sports failed to score on Saturday...and they tumbled to defeat in the fourth round of the Herts Intermediate Cup despite spirited attempts at recovery.
Sun, who made their exit at the same stage of the competition last season, were dealt a quick blow by Hitchin who had a strong wind advantage in the first half.
After only a minute hesitancy by the Sun defence let a through ball go to centre forward Capeling, who made no mistake with his shot.
Sun fought back and nearly equalised when Johnson hot the Hitchin crossbar, then another forceful raid by the visitors saw Adams put them two up with a fine 20 yard shot.
The home side attacked more after the interval and although they gained some corners they could not turn these chances into goals.
After 57 minutes Hitchin added a third when Capeling hooked the ball over the head of Burke.
Sun still fought hard and Bunce and Davis had shots hit the upright.
They could not, however, reduce the arrears and so Hitchin move into the next round having gained revenge for being beaten by Sun in last year's third round tie.
