Leggatts Way Old Boys 4 Sun Sports 2                    1964/65                             HCL Prem

It was all sewn up by half time

For 45 minutes on Saturday Leggatts Way Old Boys looked tailor made Herts County League champions as with excellent football they built up a 4-1 lead over Sun.
After the interval, despite the extra advantage of the slope, they were made to fight hard by Sun, who managed to cut the final score to  a respectable 4-2 (a reverse of the corresponding fixture last season when Sun gained an away win).
Star of the Leggatts Way display was right half Tony Haynes, who made himself plenty of time to get back in position after his occasional bursts up the middle to put punch into the forward line.
In attack the fleet footed Roy Hansard was the pick, giving a display of speed and skill.
Sun's defence were in good form, Bernard Kent dominating the middle.
Tragedy came Kent's way when he scored an own goal in the 10th minute.
The Sun centre half swung a boot high at a through ball from Haynes, but succeeded only in deflecting the ball into the roof of the net.
Kent more then made amends for this one mistake, which could be excused on the slippery conditions.
Leggatts Way, however, increased their lead in the 25th minute when Hansard pushed the ball home after good work by inside men Gerald Davies and Buddy O'Neill.
Two minutes later, Sun reduced the arrears when their busiest forward, inside left John Matthews, latched onto a through pass and left footed the ball past goalkeeper Tom Dignum.
Tony Haynes was the next scorer in this five goal first half, heading home a Steve Johnson corner.
Gerald Davies netted Leggatts Way's fourth when he stabbed home after a Newman cross had been headed on first by O'Neill and then by Hansard.
Sun then evened the game out a lot in the second half, with wing halves Barton and East moving the ball intelligently, reduced the arrears again when Matthews scored his second in the 62nd minute.
