Sun Sports 2 Bovingdon 1 1965/66 HCL Prem
Wooden spoonists made Sun fight
Sun Sports attacked continuously throughout the game but found it no easy task scoring goals against bottom of the table Bovingdon in this Herts County League Premier Division game which they finally won by the odd goal of three on Saturday.
On an almost frozen pitch Sun kept trying to play attractive football but it was probably the more unorthodox game played by Bovingdon that was suited to the conditions.
The first 35 minutes was nearly all one way traffic an d the Bovingdon goal was under continuous pressure.
It was not until 10 minutes from the interval, however, that they turned this superiority into a numerical advantage.
It was Bob Davies who broke the goal famine and within five minutes Ron Cole had added another to give the home side a two goal interval lead.
Bovingdon were more settled in the second half and came more into the game.
Their attack did not have the punch that was evident in that of their opponents, who were especially well served by young Ken Bevan, who played for the most part on the left wing.
Sun continued to attack at every opportunity but a bad mistake by two of their defenders put Bovingdon right back into the game when the arrears were reduced through an own goal.
Kent was the own goal offender, he miskicked a clearance about 10 minutes from time.
Try as they did Bovingdon could not get an equaliser.
These two points mean that Sun retain their second position in the table.
