Sun Sports 5 Hitchin Town Reserves 3                     1964/65                     Intermediate Cup

Intermediate Cup win for the Sun

Four successive goals - three of them in extra time - from centre forward Terry Reynolds carried Sun Sports into the fourth round of the Herts Intermediate Cup on Saturday.
Twice in arrears, Sun kept fighting all the way to level scores in the second half and pull away for a clear win in extra time.
Sun started strongly and had Hitchin in trouble following a corner, but Hitchin went ahead when Beamont converted a penalty in the 35th minute.
they maintained their advantage until half time, but two minutes after the interval Sun equalised when a Gerry Bunce cross deceived the visiting defence and Peter Nicholson was on hand to drive the ball home.
Three minutes later, Hitchin's defenders were caught off balance again when John Matthews swept the ball across a gaping goal, but there was no one in position to turn it into the net.
Hitchin stormed back to take the lead in the 56th minute, Godden, their best forward, getting to a left wing cross.
Only a minute passed before Sun were back on terms.
Reynolds opening his personal account with a fine shot following a smart run down the right by Gerry Bunce.
Reynolds almost got a winner for Sun three minutes from the end of ordinary time with a cracking shot through a ruck of players, but the ball rebounded off a post and was gathered by the Hitchin goalkeeper.
Sun went ahead three minutes after the start of extra time when the busy Nicholson squared a ball for Reynolds to score.
Two minutes after the start of the final period, another Nicholson cross and six minutes from the end, Matthews laid on the centre for the forward's fourth.
