Leggatts Way Old Boys 3 Sun Sports 1                   1965/66                                    HCL Prem

The Old Boys' "derby" win

Leggatts Way Old Boys cleared a major hurdle in their bid to retain the championship of the Premier Division of the Herts County League when they recovered from a one goal deficit to beat local rivals Sun Sports on Saturday.
The Old Boys triumphed after virtually being reduced to 10 men in the opening minutes.
In chasing a through ball centre forward Bill Newman jarred a leg and was forced to retire to the wing where he was no more than nuisance value.
The home team's half back line - Stratford, Birch and Crossley - held the key to success.
Resolute in defence they were able to repulse the Sun's attack in which new signing Johnny Johnson was a late replacement for leading scorer Terry Reynolds.
The Old Boys came into their own in the second half and Sun were unable to keep pace with what Leggatts Way secretary Mr mick Haynes described as "One of our best fightbacks of the season".
After even exchanges early on Bill Samson found the net for the Old Boys with a fine 25 yard drive in the 20th minute.
The linesman flagged for offside, however.
This decision upset the home team's rhythm although Sun's Billy Burke was still kept busier than his opposite number Dignum in the Leggatts Way goal.
Sun took a shock lead a minute before the interval when Johnson fired in a fierce cross-shot and John Hildreth, pressed by Peter Nicholson, turned the ball into his own net.
The Old Boys returned to the field with renewed fire after the break and Samson snatched the equaliser after 10 minutes following good work by Birch and Crossley.
Ten minutes later the Old Boys deservedly took the lead for the first time when Crossley latched on to a return pass to run through and crash the ball past Burke.
Leggatts Way were now touching on their best form and Roy Hansard made sure of both points when he shook off the determined tackles of two Sun defenders and beating Burke, Buddy O'Neill had carved the opening.
