Hemel Hempstead United 1 Sun Sports 2 1961/62 Rickmansworth Charity Cup
Sun not shot-shy
Sun's reticence in front of goal - a noted failing in the attack just recently - vanished in this second round game on Saturday.
The policy of "having a go" when the occasion arose paid dividends in the shape of an equalising goal which set Sun on the winning road.
The visitors played good, promising football from the start, but it was United who took the lead when Reg Doyle put in a gentle shot which somehow eluded the defenders and went into the net.
The goal spurred the home side on, but the Sun defence, moulded around Terry Seaward and two attacking wing halves, held firm.
Three minutes of the second half had passed when Phil Bass scored the all important equaliser for Sun with a 25 yard shot which went in via an upright.
After this Sun began to have it all their own way, and the hard pressed United defence slaved to keep the attackers out.
But after 56 minutes they faltered.
A shot was punched clear by a defender and Johnny Wise made no mistake from the resulting penalty.
