Sun Sports 2 Saffron Walden 3                                1966/67                                    HCL Prem

Sun's title hopes are hit

Sun Sports Premier Division championship hopes nose-dived in a robust match at Bellmountwood Avenue on Saturday.
With their wingers below their best, the inside men running into trouble and the shooting not up to the standard of recent games they suffered their second defeat at the hands of Saffron Walden in the league this season.
Nevertheless, Sun should have finished ahead.
Two of the visitors goals had a suspicion of offside about them, added to which the Saffron Walden goalkeeper made a brilliant save to a header by Terry Reynolds.
In the opening stages the visitors had the edge and they took the lead after 21 minutes with a goal from Drury.
Sun rallied after this, John Matthews hit the crossbar, Colin Brown went close and Reynolds had the ball in the net only to have the "goal" disallowed for offside.
In addition Reynolds missed a good chance.
It seemed that Sun would pull the game their way when in the 57th minute Reynolds scored after two worthy shots had been kept out.
A minute later a 30 yard shot from Barry Phillips beat the visitors' goalkeeper but once more the "goal" was ruled out because another player was in an offside position.
Still Sun attacked and a seemingly certain goal off Reynolds head was brilliantly saved.
Then two goals in the space of nine minutes really had Sun in trouble and although they hit back strongly and wasted chances, they had to wait until the 82nd minute before Colin Brown cut the deficit.
