Tony Stratford sent off
Sun captain, Tony Stratford, with a run of 63 consecutive matches behind him, was sent off by referee, Mr MJ De Silva in the 75th minute of Tuesday's premier league game against Leggatts Way Old Boys.
The incident occurred after the referee had blown for a free kick to Leggatts Way in their penalty area.
Mr De Silva raced into the area to sort things out and there was a collision between him and Stratford.
Words were apparently exchanged and Stratford got his marching orders.
The first half produced exciting end to end football, Colin Brown sent in two swerving shots that might easily have put Sun in the lead, but half time arrived with the score sheet still blank.
The second half was only two minutes old when Fred Biggerstaff was brought down on the edge of the area.
The referee immediately booked Stratford and cautioned him.
Fifteen minutes later, Tony Quick's name was also taken.
In the 64th minute Bill Samson was hacked down on the edge of the area, the referee pointed to the spot and play was held up for five minutes as Sun protested.
Biggerstaff's spot kick was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Derek Seabrook.
Leggatts Way applied the pressure, encouraged by some near misses.
Biggerstaff, trying to make up for his penalty failure, sent a 25 yard pile-driver against the post.
In the space of five minutes, the action reached a crescendo.
The Old Boys scored twice and Stratford was ordered off.
First Hansard moved onto a through pass, rounded the goalkeeper and slipped the ball into the net.
Two minutes later came Stratford's dismissal, and in the 78th minute Leggatts Way claimed their second goal when Biggerstaff hit a glorious 20 yard shot past Seabrook.
