St Albans Reserves 6 Sun Sports 5 1965/66 Aubrey Cup
Sun Sports lose 11 goal thriller
Sun fell to their first defeat for over three months in Saturday's thrilling Aubrey Cup second round game which produced 11 goals the last of which came seven minutes from the end of extra time.
There had never been more than a goal separating the teams throughout the game although the lead was constantly changing hands.
St Albans opened the scoring after only three minutes when a Sun defender miskicked a clearance and put the ball into his own net.
Within a minute Sun had levelled the scored through Bunce, and then they went ahead when Terry Reynolds tapped home an overhead pass from Bunce.
Five minutes later Butterfield put the home side level again and they pressed for some time but could not go ahead.
Instead it was Sun who took an interval lead through Phillips, but again it was short lived and two goals within two minutes gave St Albans the lead again.
The pace never slowed, and Sun added two goals, both from Barry Phillips, who completed his hat trick, to once more take the lead.
Six minutes from time the scores were level again but it was St Albans who lasted better in extra time, and with seven minutes left to play netted the winner.
