Sun Sports 5 Boreham Wood Saints 0 1964/65 HCL Prem
Two hat-tricks for Sun Sports
Two hat tricks were completed on the Sun Sports ground on Saturday - but only five goals were scored.
The first hat trick was produced by john Matthews three goals, and the second came in the result line itself, for this was Sun's third win of the season over the Saints: an away league victory and a cup success having gone before.
Sun, maintaining the form they displayed in beating league champions Leavesden the previous week, raced ahead through Gerry Bunce after 10 minutes and Matthews added a second two minutes later.
Saints had their best chance of the first half in the 15th minute, but Bernard Kent headed away from near the crossbar, Sun hit back and Matthews, Bunce and Dave Baron (twice) all went close.
Matthews increased the lead to 3-0 in the 42nd minute following a good move down the left.
The second half started with more good football from Sun, but they had a scare in the 50th minute, Bill Burke being called on to make a good save.
Four minutes later, Boreham Wood again went close when a terrific shot from 20 yards was taken wide by the cross wind.
Sun recovered with a fine last 20 minutes and goals by Terry Reynolds and Matthews completed their nap hand.
This win puts Sun's goal average on the credit side at 37-34, and brings their points total up to 19 from 19 games.
