Harebreaks 5 Sun Sports 5 1953/54 Rickmansworth Charity Cup
Last minute penalty earns a replay
A goal in the first fifteen seconds by Sun and one from the penalty spot in the last minute for Harebreaks stamped this game as unusual.
So did the fact that Harebreaks' A Bird was given marching orders.
Sun raced into the lead through Lamport, but the Hares drew level after fifteen minutes when they converted a penalty for hands.
This spurred on Sun who scored twice in two minutes through Beech and Watt, but Harebreaks made the half time score 2-3.
Following a lot of attacking early in the second half, Harebreaks went into the lead with two scrambled goals, but Watt put Sun on terms and then three minutes from time Ashcroft sent them in front.
Just after this Bird was sent off and from the touchline saw his side equalise with thirty seconds to go.
Extra time saw plenty of
Hard work from both teams but no further goals.
