ICI Plastics 4 Sun Sports 3                                1958/59                               HCL Div One

Sun get a late shock

Leading 3-1 with only 15 minutes of play left, Sun looked set for a "double" over ICI Plastics, whom they beat 5-1 earlier in the season.
Then came a change in fortunes.
The home side obtained a second goal, their confidence mounted and Sun finished up by losing.
Sun had the talent and the play and ought to have won.
Despite facing a strong wind in the first half, they more than held their own, and after 18 minutes Roy Brown got the ball into the net, only for one of his colleagues to be given offside.
Not to be denied, Colin Buckoke put Sun ahead ten minutes later with a shot from the wing.
Before half time, however, Plastics drew level.
Sun had most of the forward play in the second half.
Good work by John Benning created an opening for Len Mellor, and Benning made a strong wing run before sending a pass to Rodney Palmer to make the score 3-1.
In another sustained Sun attack the post was hit.
A change came over Sun in the closing minutes.
The right winger broke away to cross the ball for the home side's second goal and the same player created the chances which lost Sun the points.
