Royston Town 1 Sun Sports 2 1958/59 HCL Div One
Own goal gave Sun their "double"
An own goal nine minutes from the end enabled Sun to get back into the winning groove at Royston on Saturday.
Thus Sun completed a "double" over the North Herts team.
To begin with, however, a Sun victory looked rather unlikely.
With the slope favouring them in the first half Royston had the defence at full stretch.
Sun's defence was equal to most of the calls made upon it, and by holding out until three minutes from half time, really laid the foundations of victory.
Sun learned from their mistakes of the first half.
After the interval they took a leaf out of their host's book and met the ball, which proved to be the only way of getting the better of a bone hard pitch as well as their opponents.
In consequence Sun began to dominate the exchanges, and in the 64th minute, Doherty returned a clearance from a corner upfield to Palmer, who turned it on to Lawton to equalise.
Nine minutes from the end, debut making Tom Barber made ground on the left wing and his centre was deflected by Bushell for an own goal.
