Stansted 7 Sun Sports 2 1956/57 HCL Premier
Sun were too slow to settle
Sun took too long to settle down on the narrow quagmire that was Stansted's ground on Saturday and as a result found themselves a goal down within a minute and six goals behind at the interval .
There was a vast improvement in the second half, so much so that Stansted were rarely out of their own half, but the position of the home team proved unassailable.
In the second half Sun adapted themselves well to the heavy going and soon a three man movement between Doherty, Johnson and Noble led to Noble reducing the arrears.
For the next half an hour Sun produced plenty of clever football and the home defenders had a gruelling time.
A further Sun goal did not accrue until the 77th minute, and again Noble was the scorer when he headed home a centre from Abbott.
Stansted rallied after this, and although on the receiving end for most of the remainder of the game, they broke clear to notch a seventh goal.
