The Sun opened their Division One programme with a drawn game at Parkside Drive.
It was a game of two phases, with a draw a fair reflection of the play.
A satisfactory feature of the game was the display of Harmer, who was making his debut in the Sun goal.
He created a favourable impression with some good saves.
The first half was slightly favourable to the Sun, who reaped their reward after 20 minutes when Martindale scored with a drive that never left the ground.
Hatfield equalised five minutes before half time, and went into the lead 35 minutes after the restart.
Their hopes of a win were short lived, however, for with five minutes remaining for play, Compton was brought down as he was going through and Maley levelled the scores from the penalty spot.
