Sun battle bravely against Champions

The players of Sun Sports FC can be extremely proud of their performance against the recently crowned Spartan South Midlands Premier League Champions of this season despite losing at home 3-2.
The Boys in Yellow fought hard and seemed to play more actual football then the Champions did and had enough chances to have beaten them, but it’s the chances that are taken rather than the ones missed that makes the difference between winning the league and finishing in the top ten.
It was the Sun that had the first chance to break the deadlock when a casual but accurate flick from George Hobson found Kerran Lataille whose left footed lob was chested down by Kyle Johnson but he got under the ball and lifted it high over the crossbar.
In a back and forth game it was London Colney who went close next when a cross to the far post just missed Colney’s centre forward who ended up in the net instead of the ball.
Kerran Lataille was back in action when his header from a George Hobson free kick went just over the bar and the Sun went even closer a few minutes later when a Kyle Johnson shot deflected off a London Colney defender onto the post and rebounded to George Hobson whose shot rattled the bar before the Blueboys (in red) cleared the ball to safety.
George was putting in some decent free kicks and the next one found Andy Brennan in the box who turned on a sixpence to shoot from 8 yards but the Champions defence hoofed the ball off the line.
London Colney took their chance though and Jon Clements scored his first of the night and his 39th goal of the season after Gary Wallace was nut-megged leaving Matty Evans stranded out of position for the Champions to go one up.
Before anyone could draw breath the Sun were level when a Kyle cross flew into the box and came off a defender’s shin to make it 1-1.
As half time drew closer it was London Colney’s turn to attack which Matty Evans did well to come out and block the ball with a strong hand before pouncing on the loose ball.
The second half started much the way of the first with the Sun pushing for a goal, and it looked like the yellow’s were more than capable of taking the lead, Kerran Lataille had a fine match and seemed to be in the thick of the majority of the action.
A Kerran shot whizzed through the six yard area and Tom Gibson rushed in at the far post to try to connect but was just a tad too late.
The Sun were knocking the ball about confidently and played the ball on the floor, whereas London Colney were happy enough to use the long ball most of the time, unless they were able to get the ball through to their left winger, who was one of the dangermen of the team.
It was Andy Brennan’s turn to try a free kick and his left footed shot lifted over the wall and dipped towards the top left corner, it looked like it was going in all the way until the London Colney keeper stretched a hand up to tip the ball acrobatically over the crossbar.
The Sun fought so hard that as time went on the players started to looked jaded and it was then with around 15 minutes to go that the left winger brought Matty Evans out of position and squared the ball to Clements to tap in his second goal of the night.
Head’s dropped when that goal went in and although Dom David came on as a sub defeat seemed to be staring them in the face.
And defeat was confirmed with eight minutes to go when some more work down the left dragged the Sun defence out of position leaving McClelland on the goal line to nod the ball over the line to make it 3-1, a score line that flattered the Blueboys.
In injury time, man of the match Kerran Lataille (pictured) got his reward as he smashed in a shot from outside the area when the last corner of the game was cleared by the London Colney defence.
The Sun will play again on Thursday night with a depleted squad away to Holmer Green for their penultimate game of the season.
