Allenbury's Association 0 Sun Sports 6 1959/60 HCL Div One
The Sun shines again
Sun were every bit as good as the score suggests and once they had settled down they treated the spectators to a football feast on a pitch which just invited good ball play.
It was the home goalkeeper who was primarily responsible for the Sun not getting into double figures.
The visitors attacked from the start and the Association goal had some narrow squeaks.
that sort of luck is bound to run out eventually, however, and in the 35th minute Len Mellor scored the first of the many.
It was the same story in the second half, only this time Sun converted their misses into goals.
The home goalkeeper continued to work wonders, but he could do nothing with the five shots which eluded him.
Eric Williams started the goal rush in the first minute with a good cross shot.
Ten minutes later a snap shot by Mick Brightman hit the inside of an upright and rebounded into the net.
An excellent header by Len Mellor was responsible for goal number four.
The 74th minute saw Eddie Rolfe work his way down the wing and place a perfect pass for Brightman to make it five.
Brightman completed his hat-trick, and the team's half dozen just before the end by converting a centre from Johnny Wise - who incidently, spoiled his "one goal per match" record in this high scoring game!
