Dickinson's (Croxley) 0 Sun Sports 2 1954/55 HCL Div One
Sun put the finishing touches
The points in this County League game went to the Sun because they finished their work better in front of goal, but more cohesion among the forwards is needed by both clubs.
Sun did most of the early attacking, and Newman, Lamport and Hathaway all went near.
At 32 minutes, Ron Palmer got the ball away from a tussle, put Lamport away and the winger's centre was headed home by A Quick.
Eight minutes later, Newman finished off a good movement by scoring from close range.
For a time in the second half, play ran evenly, Deeley, who was trying hard to get the Dickinson's forwards moving effectively, tried shots but they were from well out.
Sun missed a penalty in the 62nd minute when Eldridge shot straight at the keeper, and although Dickinson's went strongly into the attack, Sun's defence did not give much away.
Sun's real strength lay in their halves, and it was certainly not their fault that the side had to be content with two goals.
